Need some advice! I am not quite sure where to post this since I didn't feel my puppy was sick....but we have been having the weirdest problem with her. She was just spayed last Friday and everything went great, post op check was great too. But last night and tonight she peed on my husband while sitting on his lap!! She is potty trained with the very occasional accident! They were just playing, not too much excitement. Is this spaying incontinence? I am really scared. She seems fine, I just hope nothing is wrong with her little internal organs. Has anyone had anything like this happen. I am going to call the vet first thing in the morning and see what she thinks! Thanks for reading, Jessica

JESSICA-> Yep. That's exactly what it sounds like to me. Especially if she appears to be peeing on him and acting like she doesn't even notice that she's doing it. I would speak to your vet when you can-you said you're going to call him in the am, keep us posted if you don't mind. It's been my experience that due to the trauma that the muscles receive during the surgery that this will happen during the healing process and as she regains complete control of her muscles and she's all healed up, this should go away on it's own and in the meantime I would avoid situations that involve you picking her up by putting any pressure on her abdomen, instead scoop her up around her chest and behind her back legs and keep in mind that she might...leak. Hope to read from ya soon.

Thank you so much for posting! I am going to call in the morning and I will let you know. It was just like you said, she didn't even act like she was urinating, it was really weird! I hope she recovers, it would be sad for her to have to deal with this since she is so young. Thank you again! Jessica

No worries. I don't think it's anything you should worry about. It's actually kinda "common". It all depends on how the surgery was done and how traumatic it was to the tissue in that area. You gotta remember that they're removing a uterus (it's not shaped like ours, it's actually in the shape of a Y) and then they remove the ovaries as well. An Ovarian-Hysterectomy (sp?) and they remove these organs through a TINY incision that's usually an inch in length or less-that's crazy! So, if you're girl is tiny, this is going to increase those odds that there's naturally gonna be more trauma to the tissue in that area. I think she'll strengthen naturally out of it. I certainly wouldn't consider medicating her imo if the vet brings that up. (they have medication that assists w/ the control function of the bladder) Do you have photos of her you can post? WELCOME TO YORKIE TALK, BY THE WAY!

Her pics are in the nursery, probably way back in the postings! Her name is Fergie, she is pretty small~3lbs.7oz. I see what you are saying about the trauma issue~unless you put it in terms of her smallness, I never even realised how small her incision is compared to what was taken out of her! I am a bad mommy and never post pictures!!! Thank you so much for all your wonderful advice! I feel alot better, and so does my husband...after he changed his clothes Jessica

Oops, when I meant last Friday I meant the 21st! Would this change anything? Her healing looks really good aroung the incision, but the stiches were placed on the inside. Interesting I thought! Here is one of her pictures, my favorite of her!

Ooh! FYI I show Yorkies and so I may sounds like a complete bit#h, please don't ever take offense in anything I say. While maybe not for the show ring, I ABSOLUTELY (and always have) those darker markings! Her color is absolutely stunning and she seems well put together (from the photo). I've got a new little girl I bought from a breeder in Budapest, Hungary that is flying "home" soon. A link for her photos should be somewhere on my profile. And while her incision may look healed, there is scar tissue she's developed inside (you should be able to feel this if you push around on her tummy. It'll feel hard-like the vet may have forgotten a utensil in there! ) and so no, the timing still sounds right to me.

Thank you! Actually, I have read many of your comments before and feel as though you are very well educated and versed on all things yorkie and more. It is nice to have a mixture of novices and pros on here! I have to agree with you on her coloring~it is lovely! I specifically looked for parents that were a little darker in coloring. When she was 2-5weeks old she didn't resemble regular yorkies and that made me a bit nervous. The top of her head had turned a little gray, but that should turn to tan. Thank you for the compliments! How exciting to be getting a new little one! I will have to go and look at her pictures! Jessica

Thanks. Oh, and for what it's worth, that greying that you were describing on the top of her head, that may or may not tan out. If I had to guess, it won't. I'd be more inclined to believe that it'll stay that silver in color and not tan out. In either case, like I said, it really is absolutely stunning. Bravo! (too many people on this forum complement new owners on how GORGEOUS thier new Yorkies are and let's face it there are some fugly Yorkies out there and some that have come across us on this site. While they may be cute dogs, they're FAR from being cute Yorkies. And so my point is that I'm not saying that you're kid is cute for the sake of stroking your ego, I actually mean it. I wouldn't say it otherwise! jm2c)

| hey... I want to start this by saying I have never seen a yorkie that color...it is georgeous!!!!! Secondly...when my Chloe (My chihuahua) was fixed she had accidents for the first few weeks. The vet told me her bladder might react more sensitively since the surgery because it takes a few weeks to really start healing so the insides still hurt and are still swollen some. The inflamation can cause leaks and did a lot with Chloe but nothing was wrong and after a few weeks it stopped. They told me not to worry unless she began swelling or looking red and raw. I know when people have surgeries they take longer to heal and that was pretty major for your baby. I am hoping all is well and wishing her a speedy recovery! She is a tiny doll. Hopefully it is just that she is still healing. :-)
