the NERVE of people!!!! my usual sunday routine is me going out WITH TOBY to the car (depositing all laundrey by my apartment door beforehand so i can just run up and get it).... I drive back to my apartment, park right downstairs with the e-lights flashing and walk to the stairs to get the laundrey....well, when went to get the last load this mentally hadicapped kid was opening my car door and trying to undue toby's leash from the seatbelt The NERVE of people, i dont care if he is handicapped or not! people dont teach there kids to break and enter into other peoples things.... needless to say i will never leave toby in the car again even if it is to walk to steps to the stairs to get the last laudrey basket. . . i mean seriously, i was like not 4 feet away from the kid (hes probably like 10)... i got really mad, i yelled at him i told him "No toque mi perro!!!!!".... i think i scared the hell out of him, but seriously, he deserved it! He was going to take my dog

That is so awful, I'm sorry. We live in an apartment complex too and the kids here are just the same, constantly trying to run in front or by the car to talk to my kids. It's rude!! We are moving next month into a nice subdivision so hopefully it will be better.

i don't blame you for being mad i would be also. i would talk to the mother or whom ever is in charge of the child. if he really and truely is mentally unsound then he may not have known what he was doing was wrong. then again he may have been trying to steal him either way i would take this up with the people in charge of him to make sure this never happens again. good luck and thank god your baby is safe.

i would do that, but unfortunatly they speak only spanish.... i can speak spanish, but only a little...... this kid is deffinatly mentally unsound, he comes and goes in a special ed. bus, and is a little physically deformed as well, he has tried to take the leash right out of my hand once too, toby is afraid of him which is a big warning sighn because toby has a very good jjudge of character, he pretty much likes everyone but if he doesnt like someone that is a REAL red flag

Boy oh boy...that's scary! I'm so glad you were there to stop him! My daughter just bought a house a few months ago and before that, she lived in an apartment complex. So many parents there just didn't give a rat's behind what their kids did and who they did it to, so even if you were fluent in Spanish, you probably wouldn't get anywhere talking with the parents anyway. Then again, maybe they would care...guess I shouldn't be so quick to judge...just going by what things were like at my daughters old place. Glad Toby is where he belongs...with you!

| Being "mentally handicapped" is of just that....Mentally handicapped and not capable of making sound judgements/choices. I think i would opt to blame the parents of this child as they are the ones truly responsible. However...There are lack of responsible parents even to "normal children", etc, I am glad Toby is ok and I am sure you were very upset by the situation. Maybe next time hide Toby in the basket of laundry, LOL!!

Sounds like this is a situation where the only way to ensure your baby's safety is to NEVER et him out of your sight. Do you have friends who are fluent in Spanish? Maybe they could help interpret the situation and how serious it could have been.. Meantime, keep a close eye on your baby..this could progress into a bad situation....

That is horrible. I bet if you did talk to the parents they'd probably just say "Oh he just wanted to play with the puppy". I live in a nice subdivision and little kids just don't seem to understand that we don't want them to pick up our puppies. The kids just see them as these cute little dogs, which they are, but they are our dogs, not for little dangerous kids to touch and break. I hope you don't let your puppy out of your sight.
