| Where do you go???? I'm sorry if this has been discussed before. I would love to take Jasmine with me everywhere I go, but I'm afraid I'm going to get yelled at by the manager. Can you take them into stores and such? I have heard of people doing this, but I never really see anyone with puppies in stores. Is it just the area that I live in? I live in the Hershey, Pa area. Where do you guys take your babies??? |

| Once they get used to hiding in a purse carrier, you can take them anywhere! Before 9/11 we used to sneak Gracie on airplanes!!!! |

| Toby doesnt get to go anywhere this is one of the disadvantages of having a larger yorkie (toby is around 9lbs) . . . BUT, when he was little i took him to college finals with mes and the movies (i can still take him to the movies because my fiance is a manager there ) , i got kicked out of wal mart several times, and starbucks had a hissyfit when i whent in with my fiance to order my coffee (because my fiance cant order it correctly) this time i got really angry because i litteraly only came in for a second just to order when he got to the register, let see...... where else....... the mall is a big nono.... i know seattle is more pet friendly but deffinatly not my area, the on ly way you can get away with taking youre dog everywhere is if youa re famous |

| I am sooo scared to get yelled at too!!! Esme has been to: Blockbuster, Dunkin Donuts, Circuit City, Einstein Bagels, Petsmart and Petco (of course), and Home Depot. Would like to take her to the movies, but I am scared! She is not so good at riding in her carrier. It looks like I have a wild beast in my bag! Good Luck! I guess it depends on the management... Also, I always tell myself, they can only tell me to leave.... but even knowing that, I am still scared! Mari

| The only place we can take our dogs are the pet places that allow them in. Our state has stick rules on this.

| There is a dog clothing store in the mall down the street from me, and I take Julius there all the time. I'll take him shopping at Neiman Marcus and no one has said anything to me. |

| I've taken Frankie to high-end boutiques and the sales girls all went crazy for him. Other places I've seen people bring their smaller dogs include:

The mall (in a carrier with his head poking out)
Inside doggie clothing stores
To the outdoor mall
In high-end boutiques/department stores
|

| When I only had Oreo, He was black, so he blended in wonderfully in my Black carrier i had for him! .. I snuck him into stores that only said "service animals welcome" .. people didn't notice until we were leaving already LOL.. and they'd tell me no animals allowed.. so i'd say.. well what do you want me to do? i'm already leaving? lol but now that I have Ginger... it's hard to lug the both of them around.. but I do, in a carrier i bought for both of them.. I take them to the mall, Stores (like target, wal-mart etc), The Bank, Grocery Shopping, I even take them to the race track events i go to.. Some signs say dogs only with a leash.. but heck, i don't walk them, i carry them cause they are spoiled lol.. well i do plan to walk them when they get their rabies shots and last giardia shot.. but i do absolutely take them everywhere with me.. unless im only going out for about 10-20 minutes i leave them in their puppy-proofed room. |

| Thanks for all of the great replys. Keep em' comin! I'm just going to have to do it. I know she would love to go everywhere with me. If I get yelled at then I'll know for the future. I have seen people bring their dogs to Home Depot as posted above. I always take her to the pet stores. I'm gonna try some more places and see what happens. I don't have a carrier for her. She hates them. She goes nuts in them and I'm afraid she's gonna hurt herself. |

| The federal law for service animals in the United States is a great way to take your dogs anywhere! The Americans with Disabilities Act states that a service animal must be allowed access to any area that an able bodied person can go, this includes restaurants and, basically anywhere. The federal law takes precedence over all state and local ordinances. There are great articles in the Yorkshire Terrier Magazine about why yorkies are so perfect for this work and they don't require much training at all. The law is pretty vaque on the definition of a disability. There are people with minor hearing loss in one ear and they train the dog to bark at certain noises like when the dorrbell rings or a forklift is backing up in Costco or something. There is one lady with Cosette of Cosette's Closet who trained her dog to dial 911. Her dog, Cosette, has saved her life something like 7 times. She suffers from schleraderma. If you get migraine headaches or you are a diabetic you can train the dog to remind you to take your medication or you can train them to detect certain changes in your body chemistry when a headache is about to come on or when your insulin levels are dangerously low. Similarly, an epileptic can train a dog to detect an oncoming seizure. Service animals for people with minor mental disorders like social anxiety, anxiety attacks, etc., need very little "training" because they are a calming influence naturally. I have high blood pressure so my dogs are trained to lick my face and give me love because just having them with me lowers my blood pressure. There is no license or proof of any special training required to use your dog as a service animal. The business owners cannot technically ask you what your disablity is or how the animal services you, although I have found that most do not know the law and will ask these questions anyway. I carry the rabies license, and a business card that simply states the following: "I am a service animal under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I am trained to assist my owner due to a diability. This federal law takes precedence over all state and local laws and ordinances. I am to be allowed access to all places an able bodied person could go when I am with my owner without additional charge or restriction." I also carry with me a Question and Answer sheet put out by the ADA for business owners with explanations of the law in case I run into someone who gives me a hard time. This law allows you to get your dogs into any hotel, theater, any restaurant, any public place basically without extra restrictions. Obviously if they damage anything, you would be responsible, but if they bark or anything, they cannot make you leave just like that cannot make people with a crying baby or fussy children leave. I recently bought some patches and a vest from Raspberry Fields to make it a little easier and more identifiable ,but these are not necessary. To research this further just google "service animals" and go from there. I can post the link for the form to educate business owners if anyone is interested. |
