| Is makeup harmful? I've been wondering this for a while. I'm not big on makeup, and only wear it occasionally. When I do, I don't let Kaji give me any kisses. I'm afraid the make up with hurt him if he licks it and ingest it.

| I dont think the little bit they would lick would hurt them. It cant be any worse than licking lotion off of you and mine do that all the time and its never caused any ill effects

| I worry about lotion too. I tend to wash my hands because I'm scared lotion will hurt him. I tend to have really dry hands. I'm just scared I might hurt him somehow.

| It's funny that you mention this. Just the other day, I wore lipstick (which is rare) and Gizmo tried to give me kisses and I was worried that if he missed my cheek (like he normally does) and gets some, would it be harmful? Then i figured with all the dirt he tries to eat, that we'd probably be okay. As long as he didn't eat the whole lipstick.

| The horrible truth is most cosmetics and grooming products ARE TESTED ON ANIMALS, before they are considered safe for people.

| But when they say tested on animals, they don't have the animals ingest it do they? Like feed them mascara, blush, eye shadow on purpose?

| Having watched shows like 20/20 where they show you the bacteria on common things, like makeup, I'd be more worried about the bacteria on the product than the product itself. The biggies like lead, arsenic & mercury are no longer found in most comestics today. ha...I just typed that then decided to quickly search and the first thing I came across: Arsenic, lead and mercury discovered in Canadian cosmetics: study | News | National Post so looks like I'm wrong. yikes
