| Layla won't eat! For easter, I took Layla to my grandma's house, 5 hours away. The whole time we were there there were people around, and another dog, so she was very excited the whole time. On our way home all she did was sleep. I thought she was just tired out. When I woke up yesterday her little stomach was grumbling so I tried to hand feed her some kibble, but she wouldn't take it. I gave her some Energel for nutrients. I tried giving her carrots, which she loves, but she just chewed it up and left it on the floor. She spent the whole day asleep on my couch or my bed. Is she just sad now that all the people aren't around? I managed to get her to eat a couple yogurt drops yesterday, and she had a really soft stool before bedtime. She hasn't went at all yet today, and it looks like she still hasn't touched her kibble. What can I do?

| Are you sure that she didn't eat anything at Grandma's that may have upset her little tummy? If not, then maybe it was just the excitement of the visit. Nikko does the same thing whenever I take him to my mom's. Its a 45 minute car ride and he gets car sick and pretty much vomits the whole way so I try not to feed him before we go. When we get to my mom's I always lay out some food for him but because he is so excited he refuses to eat. Even his cookies which he totally loves. When we get home, it is pretty much the same thing. I lay out food but he is usually too tired to eat. He doesn't return to his normal eating patterns until the day after we have had an outing. As long as she isn't vomiting or has diarrhea I wouldn't worry too much. When she gets hungry, she'll eat. Just watch her carefully for dehydration.

| Thanks for the reply. I know that when I wasn't looking my uncle and brother both let her eat the gravy off their plates, but she was still eating okay the next day so I don't think it bothered her too much. Just a few minutes ago she went to her pee pad and squatted, but only like a drop of pee came out. But she also just ate a kibble so hopefully she'll drink some water too.

| I would try giving her chicken or something she might really go for, and maybe put karo in her water so she is at least getting some sugar, if she is drinking. If she isn't drinking you should probably take her in, they can get dehydrated in a hurry. |

| Try giving her some cottage cheese. My yorkies will always eat that. You could mix her food in with it too.

| I have a very finnicky eater, and sometime I have to mix baby chicken food with his kibble. I've even spoon fed and hand fed him just to make sure he doesn't get the shakes. just make sure to watch his blood sugar. I've heard horror stories. If he starts to get the shakes give him honey or sugar, maybe some honey nut cherios. That'll keep his blood sugar up. My pup did that after play dates with other dogs, I think he got lonely and wanted a friend to play with. I ended up getting another one, and his eating habbits have gotten better. |
