| Wavy hair?? My Yorkie has the most wonderful hair in the world. If I didn't bath him or comb him and had clothes on him every day for a month -- he would never have a tangle or a matt. However, his hair is not "straight" --- it is quite wavy (I like it this way). I am just wondering if a "silky-haired" Yorkie can have "wavy hair" --- or is it supposed to be "very straight?" I think also -- if his hair were longer - it might be straighter. Right now, his hair is about an inch or a little longer all over. Carol Jean |

| Thank you for your reply -- I am looking at my Yorkie again - and his coat is really "very wavy" --not curly -- but definitely very wavy. And - again - it is wonderful hair - never never tangles or matts at all. It is very shinny - and it "glows" when light hits it. It is very pretty. Believe me - I'm not complaining at all. I really lucked out as far as his hair goes --it is so easy to care for. And, as I said earlier, I actually like its being wavy. ***** Probably like everything about a Yorkie - we can get different combinations of everything! Carol Jean |

| coat It is not unusal for a short coat to be wavy...if it does not mat, I would bet it is silk. If it is wavy when it is long, you can blow it out straight or use a flat iron that humans use..if it is important. |

| My Brandy has very wavy hair that never matts. I am growing her out long and its about 3 inches now and if I didn't brush her for a week she would look like a mess but I could have her brushed out in about 30 seconds. Her fur just doesn't matt. Titan's hair is straight as an arrow and much thinner and also doesn't ever matt. I think both are silky coats just one is straight and one is wavy. I read so many posts about cotton coated yorkies that got matted and are impossible to brush out. There is definitely a difference between a cotton coat and silk coat.

| When Tucker was younger and his hair was long, it hung straight but the ends had a wave to it and turned up. His hair is silky but very thick and would still matte. I finally borke down and gave him a long puppy cut. Cutiest curls you ever saw and very few mattes now. Since I don't have to work Easter, everyone is getting a bath a new picture. Will show you his pretty coat later.

| I started this thread - and said that I am lucky in that my Yorkies' hair never matts or tangles - and that I like his "wavy hair." However - when I read about those of you having problems with your pups hair, I do know how you feel. You should have a Bichon - His hair is absolutely totally the thickest hair you will ever find on a dog. (It's like Yorkie hair times a hundred!) When he's groomed, it's straightened, but if he gets wet - it gets curly. When I try to comb him, it is like trying to comb a sheep.....it is like "wool." I can spend forever trying to get one small area combed out. It's impossible - so, we're going to the groomer and getting a shorter cut - again!!!!! But - boy is he "beautiful" .... like a pure white cottonball when he comes home. Thanks again for all your replies. Carol Jean |
