| Marking nightmare! Ahhhhhh!!!! Parker has started marking! AND lifting his leg to do it(he still squats to pee)! The same 3 baseboards. I'm losing my mind. I'll clean everything up really good, and literally 3 seconds later he'll have done it again! Once he's nuetered will he stop marking? We have a vet apt next week to discuss having him nuetered. |

| Thats exactly why I got Titan neutered this week. He is 11 months and hadn't starting marking yet. I have heard that lots of them will stop marking once neutered but I would do it quick before too strong a habit forms. In the mean time maybe keep him in belly bands while loose in the house.

| It's interesting that this subject comes up so often on Yorkietalk. Question-do Yorkies mark more than other breeds? I had three male dogs as i was growing up and none of them marked inside.Plenty when we went for walks! I have a female Yorkie,so don't know an up to date answer. However,my male neutered cats occasionally mark--much to my horror!

| marking It should help alot..but you need to put a belly band on him NOW to prevent he smelling where he already peed. Good Luck PS..you can use a tube sock with a pad inside..secure it with a large safety pin as a "make do"...you might need to get some belly bands for after neutering, until it "kicks in.." |

| Chachi is neutered and the only time he marks is outside to leave his scent. I definitely think getting him neutered would help.

Do you suppose small dogs mark in the house more, because they are so small and even inside of the house seems like a huge world to them.. With big dogs, they may feel no need to mark inside since to them it seems like a small place. Which could also be why they are difficult to train, because they do not consider the entire house their nest. Maybe they only consider certain areas off limits for marking and pottying. Just a thought | |

| You know whats funny is Titan has never marked in my house or back yard but when we take them for a walk on a leash he holds it for the entire walk until we get home and has to mark right at the end of our own driveway. Thats it, just this one little area. It's like he realizes he can't own the neighborhood but just our front yard. Also my larger dog, Dallas, marks at the end of my driveway also and she's female. She even lifts a leg to do it.

| I am having the same problem with Ceeby and baseboards. That is the one place you do not want to be peeded on. A gal on another board I belong to had to tear her baseboards out and redo her walls underneath. It seeped behind the baseboard and ruined the walls. Not good. Also, it is impossible to get the smell out when it is behind the baseboards. |

| I got my belly bands from the Foster & Smith catalogue, but I'm sure the pet stores sell them. My two males both started lifting their legs around 5 months. I took them out every hour and used belly bands in the house. I had them both neutered at 6 months, and the marking stopped. I think discipline when you catch him in the act helps a lot, and also taking him out frequently until he gets the idea that it's a no-no. Don't despair - I honestly believe neutering helps a lot.

| My 8-month old will be neutered soon. He definitely marks - inside and out. I take him out to pee often, and he's good about going. But when we're back in the house I slap a belly band around him and don't have to worry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I use washcloths - fold them diagonally - wrap them around the little boy - and pin them with a diaper pin. I have a couple dozen of these and just throw them in the wash with the rest of my laundry. They work very well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- And - because I take my pup outside every hour and a half or so - his belly band is almost always dry. So - even though my puppy marks in the house, he doesn't seem to do it if he gets outside often........ Good luck! Carol Jean |
