| Red Causes a Dog to Urinate? Okay, first my little story, then the question ... The other day my two friends (from the rescue squad) and I stopped by my house after a call because I wanted to show them my new house. Now, we all had on our red uniforms (red from neck to ankle, and long sleeves). Well, I went to get Baby from up in her crate. She ran down stairs and started going crazy jumping on my friends (nothing unusual). BUT...she peed on the floor! Now, I know some pups pee from excitement, but she has NEVER ever done this before, and hasn't done it since! I couldn't believe she just peed right on the floor while jumping around. My friend Devin said the same thing happened with his dog when his friends from the squad came over in their red uniforms. And his dog never peed like that either! He said he thinks that red makes dogs want to urinate...like when they pee by a red fire hydrant. Now for the question: Have any of you ever heard of that or had a dog do something similar upon seeing lots of red? Thanks!

| I don't know about the red thing, but my parents dog used to pee when their friend came over (always same friend) and he worked at a morge. My dad always suspected that it was the smell of the guy. So maybe if they "smelled" like medician or something, something we couldn't pick out but that your furbaby could it could make them pee. Just a thought.

| Dogs aren't totally color blind- but they don't see color nearly as well as we do. I find it hard to believe that "red" would cause a dog to urinate. If this were true, this would have become a well established fact long before now. And - wouldn't we all be using "red potty pads?" Dog's peeing on a fire hydrant is not because it is the color red - but rather because it is just the "perfect shape" for a little dog to pee on - especially when he is on sidewalks and streets with no bushes. And - then, of course, after one dog has pee'd on it, every dog smells it, and it soon becomes the perfect for all dogs to pee (especially males). PS: My neighborhood has "yellow fire hydrants" and they still get pee'd on a lot. Carol Jean |
