I think My Furbaby needs Braces!! Hey everyone! I need some advice for my fellow Yorkie talkers Buster is going to be 7 months old on April 20th and on our last vet visit ((about a month and a half ago)) he showed me that Buster was getting his "big boy" teeth in and if the baby teeth didnt fall out by 10 months, he wanted to pull them Well since then..he has some more "big boy" teeth that have come in,....its starting to look like 2 rows of teeth on the top and on the bottom!!!! He lost 2 but nothing else... When do their little teeth start to fall out and has anyone ever had their babie teeth pulled?? I have heard that this bread is know for teeth problems...I just want to make sure he is going to be ok.

I'm not sure at what age they start to fall out, but they should lose them as they get thier permanent teeth. And yes yorkies are famous for not losing their baby teeth.

No braces, ...but they do have them for dogs. Anyway, your vet should be concidering removing the known puppy teeth now. If he waits until 10 months, the teeth will already have shifted to accomodate the disiduous teeth. The teeth could always float but...here's the problem that many vets face w/ these small breeds. When it comes time to go in and remove baby teeth, it's sometime difficult for the vet to decide which teeth are adult and which are baby. Some dogs it really is hard to tell. So, many will opt to wait until their older to be sure. If they accidentally remove an adult tooth, well, the odds of their being another coming in behind it are slim...so now the dog is out a tooth. And we ALL agree that our little ones can use all the healthy teeth they can get! So, either way, I wouldn't panic, I'd just ask if he feels comfortable removing the disiduous teeth now-assuming the adult teeth are coming in or are already in fully. He/She can always take an x-ray and see which teeth are even developed underneath the gum line to be certain! (an uncommon practice-my understanding)

I had my boy's removed at 11 months (4 of them that didn't fall out). All of the teeth look perfect now with no bite problems. My mom also had her girl's removed at the same time and she was just over a year. She had to have 6 removed and all of her remaining teeth straightened up on their own.

My pup is about 8 months old - and has appeared to have only two doubles - on either side on the bottom. I have been putting off neutering - waiting for these teeth to fall out - but, he is going in within the next couple of weeks to get neutered whether the teeth are out or not. However -- I was showing these doubles to my sister two night ago - and "lo and behold", there was only one double left. Now that one fallen out, I am expecting the other one to soon. Carol Jean
