Does this irritate you?

Does it irritate anyone else on yorkietalk when someone seemingly joins just to sell expensive puppies? It seems to me that 99.9% of us on here just like to share with each other about our babies and concerns, etc. Then along comes a newbie with outrageously priced puppies. I guess there is no rule against this, but it just seems like free advertisement to me! Forgive me if this is a little crappy of me, but it rubs me the wrong way. I paid $1200.00 for Lexy, and I thought that was way high! I did that because I wanted a healthy female from a breeder I could visit. Over $2000.00 seems excessive to me if there is a spay/neuter contract attached. Lexy didn't come with a spay contract and was still much less than $2000.00! Of course, I'm not going to breed her and will have her spayed because she is small. Anyway, just wanted to "vent!"

it irritates me when people join just to use YT to advertise their puppies. people that post, give advice etc and advertise their puppies don't bother me. but i think those kind of people find out really quick that were not going to be sucked into buying an overly priced puppy. i know that in other states the prices are higher than where i live (most expensive i found was $800) but advertising them as tcups and selling them for outrageous prices isn't going to work here!

I agree with you! It doesn't bother me at all when regular yorkietalk members let us know they have available puppies. It just bugs me when someone "joins" for free advertisement of their outrageously overpriced puppies!

One thing I do when someone does that is keep them in mind to alert other prospective buyers to avoid them. If they are joining lists to advertise, they must not have a very good market for their puppies. I have never advertised any of my puppies for sale on the internet. I have shared the coming of a new litter, but I have never sold one over the internet. One thing I do is insist that anyone that wants one of my puppies comes to my house to meet me, and see the puppies. I never take a deposit on one, because you can never tell what will happen from the time they are born, to the time they can leave my home. 12 weeks is a pretty long time in the life of a puppy, and if they get sick or die, the buyer would be very upset. I keep in touch with the new yorkie mom's and dad's and I do have a contract. If it is a pet it must be spayed/neutered, and if the person does not agree the puppy stays with me. If I am selling a pet, it is because I don't think it is show quality, and it should not be bred, period. If I sell a show prospect, it is on a co-ownership until the dog/bitch is finished, and then I will release the co-ownership. I don't want someone saying that they are going to show a dog just to get a full registeration to breed. If they tell me they are going to show the dog, they better do that, or return it to me. They can not breed it without my signature to register puppies. I will help them show the dog, but if they decide not to show, the pup comes back to me.

I didn't see the ad people are referring to but we do have a section here titled "FOR SALE" and I think it is okay to post there. It doesn't offend me. A lot of breeders are just too busy to spend much time chatting on the forum. I really appreciate the great ones we have who do to help educate us lay people everyday, but I think our membership is astute enough to decipher those ads for what they are and let it go at that. In California, especially southern California, it is not easy to find a healthy, good quality yorkie puppy from a reputable breeder for less than $2000. That's just a fact. If you want the pick of the litter you are probably going to pay more than that. I know it's different in other parts of the country, but the demand for yorkie puppies is high and so the market sets the price. Available puppies go very quickly and you have to stay on top of it if you want to get one.

I agree with this post SoCalYorkiLvr. As long as the ad is in the "For Sale" a breeder has just as much right I am guessing as any other breeder offering the sale of their Yorkies. The price being paid is a personal option just as anything for sale. I might spend $300.00 on face moisturizer and be just fine with it where as another individual might find it obsurd.

I didn't see the ad yet but the person offering the sale of a pup for $2,000 or ??? might make someone extreamly happy for many years who is willing to pay that much and find this new Yorkie baby a true blessing no matter what the cost. I do also hope this is the outcome of such...I hope it's the outcome of all "adoptions/sales" of these little fur babies!

Even though this breeder might only have time to post a "free" add in YT to offer the sale of her pup(s) and might not be back on YT for a long time. The person who adopts this pup might come to YT and stick with it like the rest of us do...It could really turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

She has removed the post with the over $2000.00 puppy. The only thing that bugged me was the fact that someone just joined the site to advertise and not to participate. I love reading all the breeders posts about your new puppies.

I saw that post. I thought that the price was rather high. However if someone's gonna pay it I say have at it. I didn't pay anywhere near that. I wouldn't even though I believe my dogs are worth that much or more.

I would pay many times that to have Gracie back! Its just the principle of it I guess!

Also, I would think people would give more credit to breeders or sellers with more than 1 post. I don't know how successful the sellers may be, but credibility does count for most people. Breeders that give lots of advice, tell us about themselves, and participate in the community are more likely to be able to find their new litters a new home here. As long as the seller is putting it specifically in the For Sale section, I think it's okay for now. If it gets out of hand, of course there can be things that can be done.
