front/body carrier advice.... I'm interested in a sling/snugglie sort of body carrier (I'm blanking on what they're called, for dogs! ) Because I would use this type of thing primarily in the summer, and it gets soooo hot here, I was looking for something in a lightweight sort of mesh, that would be relatively cool. Also, since I would use this in, let's say, "street fair" type situations when I might want to walk the dog for awhile, then carry it for awhile, I'd prefer something that wasn't TOO difficult to wrestle the pup in and out of. This item (offered in mesh) seems ideal for my needs... Could you advise me on how practical or actually useful this might/might not be? http://www.stacksandstacks.com/html/8733_pet-pocket.htm Last edited by JiggityJig; 04-07-2006 at 04:54 PM.

I don't know about that one your asking about but I have one made from like a light weight blue jean material. It goes on front and is something like what a mom would carry her small child in. Works great.

Maybe something like this (more "away" from the body) would be even better. I wonder if it would come in mesh....or what the coolest material to look for would be?

we have a denim one too. romeo doesn't like it. he tries to climb out. plus, it hurts my lower back. we have a shoulder bag that he will tolerate for short periods of time. i recommend going to a store like petsmart put your dog into the bag and see if she likes it before you purchase it. next we are going to try a stroller. happy shopping!

I would think a light color mesh would be best. But try like Petsmart and take your dog in with you and try some out. Some brands are not comfy at all.

Well, shopping is not readily available to me (hours away), so I was trying to do it online. However, I see your point about trying them on. Might just have to make a trip! Thanks for trying to help me!

| I had one of these for Oscar to ride on the Harley. He HATED it but he does not like to be confined. He wanted to be out where he could see everything. I definitely suggest going to the store, strapping it on and putting your pup in it to make sure it works for both of you. Not only did Oscar hate it, it was hot and uncomfortable for me to wear. I am glad we opted for another way to secure him for the bike ride! Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Yes, the more I looked at that "pocket", the more I thought, it may not be hot for the DOG, but it would be for ME! Even the slings I'm seeing look awfully....bulky. Is that necessary, to provide the support needed? I'm looking at the Outward Hound sling, but....I wish there were something...cuter. More stylish looking, you know? Does one of the sites that makes doggie clothes offer some cute slings? Eh, maybe I just need to give up, and go with a airy carrier with a shoulder strap!

What is the verdict on puppy purses? http://www.trendypuppy.com/small-dog...carriers_3.htm Seems like a dog would like this more than being stuffed "in" something, since this is more like they're just being "carried"--but how comfortable is it, I wonder?

Global Pet Hipper A while ago, I was searching for something exactly you're describing. Something that I can carry in the front, roomy enough, and not too hot for either of us. I bought Global Pet Hipper (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=284507) after looking at several carriers. You can actually adjust this so that you carry the pouch right in front of your tummy. I've carried her in it and she's quite comfortable. It has mesh pockets on the sides, and front so you can also carry her/his food and water. Amazon's offers the best price, as far as I know. I checked out several retail stores and they're all pretty over-priced. Anyways, check it out.

(the research continues! ) Besides potential discomfort, what are possible problems with a bag like this? Actually looks less likely for a dog to try to "crawl out" of than some of the other things I've looked at. Would there be a support problem, do you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/Dog-Puppy-Animal...QQcmdZViewItem

| I can't tell if the bottom of that bag has solid support or not. As far as the "crawl out" issue, make sure any bag you buy has a d-ring inside the bag to clip your dog's harness to so if they do try to crawl or jump out, they can't. As with any bag, comfort for you and your dog are important and I would suggest going to the pet store and "try on" the bag or carrier before you buy. It is almost like an item of clothing for you and your dog and needs to be comfy for both of you or you will never use it.
