| I am at my wits end I got the most destructive and stubborn yorkie. Still having the hardest time even getting her halfway potty trained. She still pees and poops on the floor constantly and barely wants to use her pee pad. But, the main problem is that she won't stop tearing up the pee pee pads. We are scared to leave the house even for a few hours because everytime we come home, poop, pee and cotton is all over the laundry room. My mom went to Petsmart and bought a holder for the pee pee pads. And she is still destroying them! I tried scolding her, punishing her, I don't know what else there is. I am also worried about the cotton being harmful to her. And she also has this disgusting habit of playing and trying to eat her poop. The vet gave us forbid and it did not work hardly at all. We try to pick it up as soon as she does it. But, we can't be home with her 24/7. My yorkie Lacey was never this bad as a puppy. My mom made a very hurtful comment that she is starting to hate her. I know she did not mean it, but she just gets very frustrated with her. I still love Chloe with all my heart and know she is still going through the terrible puppy stage. But, I just don't know what else to do. I can't afford an obedience class for her.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali went through that stage too and I just kept telling her no and she stopped doing it except occassionally. She will grow out of it. I would try not leaving one down if your only going to be gone for a couple of hours. CAli is now almost 10 months old and it is so much easier. She play by herself alot or just sits around looking out the window or snuggles by me. I thought we;d never get to this point but hang in there it gets better.

| Yes, I tried crate training and it did not work. She would pee and poo in it even if we only left her in their for an hour. If we don't leave a pee pee pad on the floor, pee and poop will still be all over the floor. She pees and poops a lot. She is only going on 14 weeks old.

| What kind of food are you feeding her? Although puppies pee and poo a lot, if you try higher quality food, they usually don't go potty as much. The cheaper foods have fillers which cause the pups to drink more water and thus, more pee. Cheaper foods also have more waste and so a dog will poo more. I have Rex (11 weeks old) on Solid Gold dry food and he is down to 2-3 poos per day. I know it is so hard - I coudn't get Rowdy to go on his pee pads either and he would just tear them up too. But as soon as we got a doggie door, problem solved, and he started going outside pretty consistently. Rex already goes in and out the doggie door and goes potty outside "most of the time" - but he has a good role model. I do know though, that not everyone can have a doggie door - but I don't know what I would do without one! Good luck - she will grow out of it - but those words don't help right now.....

| Cajungal, I know how you feel. I had two dogs (still have one) before I got my Yorkie, and I had truly forgotten what having a little puppy is like. I had forgotten how bad the chewing, biting, peeing, and pooping can be. Shame on me! But I have been quickly reminded and the new little pup and I have been going through all these same things again. I remember now that my one little pup ate and tore up the puppy pads as fast as I could put them down. We finally just had to stop using them. They weren't working at all and simply created another mess to clean up. And you know - a lot of these problems will lessen as your little girl gets older. You were right when you mentioned the "puppy stage." And - for sure - little puppies are all different; no two are the same. You just have to work with what you have, do your best, and in time a lot of these problems will disappear - or at least become more tolerable. If your puppy is confining her messes to the "laundry room" when you are gone, this is a good thing. It's a small area and you probably have a floor that can be easily cleaned. Hang in there!!!!!! You know things will get better - this is a given! At least you don't have a "big dog" pup. They can be a lot more trouble than our little ones are. And, take some comfort in the fact that the problems that you are having are the same ones most of us have lived through - or are going through right along with you. Carol Jean |

| No, Chloe was not from a pet store. She was from a local breeder. My first yorkie Lacey was from a pet store and was a total breeze to train. We used the crate divider when we first brought her home. But, she still kept peeing and pooping in it. And no, she is not on cheap food. She is on Science Diet Puppy Bites. She does not eat any table scraps at all. Just the Science Diet and we give her a puppy dog biscuit when she does make it to her pad as a treat. I love her to death despite her being bad! I look into those puppy eyes of hers and it melts me everytime. I never can stay mad at her for long. Petsmart suggested trying a litter box if the wee pad holder is still not working for us.

| No to Litter Box Please read posts about litter boxes before you invest! We bought one and the litter at Petsmart and Lucinda just ate the litter. When I read posts, I found that happens a lot. Petsmart did refund our money for the box and the remaining bag of litter. Doggie doors are the way to go as far as we are concerned! |

| I bought those baby mattress pads. the crib size. I use those for pee pads. I started using those to save on money. it got expensive after they started learning that was where to go. seems like i was always putting a clean one down. they have only tore up maybe 3 of the paper pads.(their mother showed them how to do it)

Let her know when you're unhappy with her, but REALLY let her know when you are pleased. Make it a Mommy's happy party!!! She wants more than anything to please you. She just hasn't figured it all out yet! Good luck with your little darling!

| Although science diet is not a cheaper brand, it will cause her to pee and poop a lot more - at least that is what a trainer told me about it. You might try one of the better foods, chicken soup, solid gold, merrick, california natural natural, or evo.

| With the first four ingredients as Ground Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Soybean Meal, and Animal Fat, Science Diet Puppy Bites isn't the best thing out there even if it's not a cheap brand. Improving the quality of food will help to cut down on stool. But remember, puppies are babies. They pee and poo a lot and don't have the ability to hold it like they will when they older. 14 weeks is pretty young. My bunjee was still kinda 50-50 off the pad and on the pad at that age. It wasn't until 5 months when he really started to "get it". Scolding her and punishing her when you get home to find the pee and poo does the both of you absolutely no good at all. She doesn't understand why you're so mad. In fact, she might come to think when you're home to release her from the laundry room, it's punishment time and she's less excited to see you home. Puppies have short attention spans. A big firm NO is or any other scolding is only useful if you can catch her in the act. Otherwise, they don't make the connection between the pee'ing and poo'ing and the scolding and punishment (not that i agree with punishment form of training anyways). If you see the mess when you come home. Just quietly clean it up. Concentrate your efforts on potty training her when you are home. How are you training her to use the potty pad when you are home? She doesn't instinctively know to use the pad. You'll have to teach her and teaching her take a lot of time, patience and consistency. Just leaving it with her in the laundry room, she might think it's a toy for her to play with (as evident by her tearing it up) and not a toilet. When you are home, take her to the potty pad every 30 mins or so and tell her to "go potty". When she does, reward her with lots of treats and praise. When she tries to play with or tear the potty pad, give her a firm, loud, NO! Be patient with your little one's puppy phase. She'll get it eventually. Good luck! |
