| Hair question...??? I have heard that if you cut your yorkie's hair short before their puppy coat is gone and their adult hair is in, then their coat will turn silver instead of staying black. Is this true?

| Maybe it is because when their adult hair is starting to come in, it is more silver and if you clip off that puppy black hair the silver begins to show thru more quickly? But I don't think it causes them to turn silver...they will do that regardless if you clip them or not...it is just more obvious when the puppy coat is clipped...JMHO!!!

| Some yorkies have the silver and some do not. My girl is very silver, my boy only has a little silver around his tail. Niether of my girs parents had any silver but had one other pup before her that turned silver.

| I haven't cut Diesels hair yet. Well just a small trim. The top of his front legs have the "blue' color under the black but now his back... that is still black and shows no signs of turning. He is 8 months now. To be honest I hope he doesn't change. I love the color of his back now. Of course he isn't "show" material because of it... But he is the best looking baby I have ever seen. He would beat everyone of those show dogs! LOL At least he would if I were the judge. LOL |

| No - it's not true. Cutting/trimming has nothing to do with the color the hair will be. Look closely at your pup's roots - and you will see when any change in color is coming through. My little pup (8-weeks old), black and tan like all pups, on close examination had almost white roots - about 1/4 inch growth.(at 8 weeks).....and as I expected, he soon turn a beautiful silver. At four months with his "fast growout" he was completely sliver and a very beautiful light tan. Carol Jean |
