| Sleeping in crate question If you want to train a puppy to sleep in a crate, do you just put them in the crate at night and leave them alone? Our pup actually likes the crate but wakes up every two hours crying. We take her out to pee pee but she wants to play after that. Should I just put her back in the crate and let her cry? She is 8 weeks old and that seems a little heartless. Should I just chock this up to the fact that she is still so very young and needs the attention like a real baby? I am worried that if I keep taking her out of the crate, she will get used to it but I have to be sure she doesn't need to pee pee and that she is okay. How did you all get through this?

| At 8 weeks old, a puppy probably needs to go more frequently. I think you are ok with taking her out to go potty, but make sure it's business ONLY. Don't play with her. Take her out to potty and put her right back in the crate. Eventually, she will get that night time is not play time. And she only gets taken out for potty. She should be progressively weaned to get up only 1 time per night, around 5 -6 months old. (some start sleeping all night this early) So I would say by 12 wks, you should only have to get up 2 x a night, depending on her bladder control and then you need to work up to sleeping all night. I know it's tough, but be strong and don't cave. You want to make sure to develop good habits not bad ones. |

| my 2 pups 5 mo now have always slep in a crate at night. when they whine i know they need to potty. I talk them in the bathroom where i have a pad. they potty rigght away and I take them right away back to the crate. they don't cry again until time to potty again. most of the time it isn't until morning. watch the food and water in the evenings to help control how many times they go. mine might be different having 2 adults that sleep with us. but they all know what time is bed time. they tell me. when they are totally warn out they sleep real good. they have even refused to play past 9:30 most of the time. I wish my human kids had been that precise. LOL
