| Good smelling shampoos ... any ideas? Hey there everyone! I have had to dip Tess for 6 times in a row every 5-7 days and we are FINALLY done!! I washed her today with a mild puppy shampoo, but everyone said she is still kind of smelly. (I thought she smelled much better.) Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions on a really good-smelling shampoo brand. I don't want everyone to think she's stinky. Thanks bunches! |

| That happens to me too! I bathe Fred but everytime I sniff him, he still has that "smell" to him! I've bought 4 kinds of shampoos, deodorizers, sprayons.. nothing works! |

| We use the Groomax gentle puppy shampoo from Petsmart (it's in a blue bottle) then the Groomax silk protien conditioner, which helps out with brushing as well. It leaves a pleasent smell, and as long as they are bathed every week, I don't get a whiff of that dog smell. I also use the Unicoat Spary from Gold Metal Pets when brushing. They always smell nice and fresh - not overly scented though, which I don't like.

| When i first got Ginger, she REAKED! and it was hard to get the smell of of her for a week i kid you not! i couldn't get that smell out of the hairs on her head.. but i just used baby shampoo, pantene-pro v as conditioner and then i used the four-paws cologne, which to tell you the truth worked like a charm |

| Petsilk smells better than anything I have tried. I use it on Bentley and he smells really good for days. Maltese have no doggie odor anway so maybe thats why hes retains that smell for a long time

| Thanks bunches! WOW! Thanks for all the great advice. I was going to use Baby Shampoo because I figure if it's gentle enough for a baby it would be for a puppy as well. I thought I read somewhere else on the forum that you shouldn't use human shampoos and conditioners on dogs, but I don't remember for sure. I definitely will try it because after the lyme dip I really want her back to smelling good. On top of the fact that it rained the other day and that really seems to bring out that great doggie "odor". Thanks again. I think I'm going to head to Petsmart and see if they have any of the brands ya'll recommended. |

| I use Vellus for Sophie. They have a shampoo and conditioner and a colonge. They all smell SO good. I love it. As long as she gets her bath once a week, with a few touch up sprays if needed, she smells great. You can get them from Vellus.com Oh, I tried baby shampoo too, it didn't help with the tangles at all. She became very matted. The vellus is amazing on tangles. Good luck,

| I use infusium everyday when I brush her and that seems to keep her smelling nice in between baths. I've only had her since Easter and I've bathed her once so she is late for her bath, but I have been sick and just haven't been able to. I plan to bathe her again today. When I did, I used the Groomax 2-n-1 puppy that I think aimee mentioned, but her skin was very dry so I also used my little girls' conditioner....it's L'oreal kids line - grape conditioner. I took a wash cloth and scrubbed real hard like I did when Ash had cradle cap ( or to keep her from getting it). That plus the infusium, she hasn't had hardly any flakiness at all. She has also smelled good even though she's late for her bath

| Baby shampoo Hi, I was told by my groomer that human shampoo shouldn't be used on dogs b/c the pH is different. She said especially baby shampoo b/c it is specially made for babies who tend to be more oily/greesy than adults so it will have more of a drying affect on the dog.

| I use tearless baby shampoo on his face and Tropicare shampoo w/ tea tree oil & oatmeal on his body. I also spray Citre Shine (for people) on him when I'm blow drying/brushing. He still smells like outside though...

Where can I purchase Pet Silk'? There's nothing more satisfiying than having a pleasantly, smelling Yorkie. I can cuddle them for days.

| I know some vets disagree with using human shampoo on dogs, but I honestly have to say I disagree with that, because if I would not have starting caring for Nemo's coat (which was very thin, wirey, and not growing at all and very dull)the way I do my own it would be a total mess. I use Mane 'N' Tail shampoo and conditioner on Nemo, and 3 times a month I use a Cholesterol deep conditioning treatment on him his coat, which combats the protein which is in the mane n tail, which protein is good for the coat because it promotes growth, strength, and also helps with thickening thin coats or hair, but can make the hair hard that is why you should use a deep conditioner from time to time, anyway.....there is another product that I most definitely swear by for anyone with a thick coated yorkie or just for tangles plus it is a leave-in conditioner, it makes the coat really soft....Thermasilk Detangling leave-in conditioner which is heat activated, so I spray this on his coat, and comb his hair while blow drying, and it comes out smelling, and looking so nice and shiney.......And to give his coat a break from the Mane 'n' Tail I alternate with the Pantene products, and I swear Nemo's coat is so healthy......he gets a bath once a week, and believe me his coat is just as impressive 5 days later........I use a groomers cologne the scent is compared to the Gorgio mens cologne, not sure the exact Name, but I have been using since he was 8wks, he is now 8.5 months These are just my opinions: Gale Last edited by Gale; 04-06-2005 at 01:18 PM. |
