Yorkies Ears I heard that, you can tell if the breeding is good by the puppies ears. Does anybody know if this is true? Apparently if you are looking to get a yorkie puppy, you should obviously look at everything, but the ears is a quick sign of bad breeding. Can anybody confirm this.

Hi, Welcome to YT. I'm not sure what it is that you are supposed to look for in the ears. I've never heard that. I don't think there is any sure way to identify good breeding. If there was, there wouldn't be so many people getting scammed. Check out the reputation of the breeder. That is a better indicator of what you are getting in the way of a puppy.

Never heard that before Charley has one ear which hasn't completely stood up (the tip is still down) he is now 11 months old so it is very unlikely that it will go up now.I didn't realise at the time that I should of been massaging the tips to improve the strength of the muscles in the ear.If I had done this it would of more likely of stood up I have heard that if the mums or dads ears are not fully pricked up but are floppy there is more of a chance the pups ears won't stand up. Charley parents ears were both up. Sharon,Charley & Melody xxx

I've never heard that before. My 1 1/2 year old, Cooper, had floppy ears even after teething (which they say can affect the ears) so we taped them up for a couple of weeks and it worked! He looked kind of silly, but it didn't hurt and he didn't pull at them or scratch so I don't think he minded! My new pup's ears stood up from the beginning and they have the exact same parents. Good Luck!

Yorkie Ears We were at Petsmart today to get puppy pictures done and there was a lady there with an 11 week old Yorkie. She said with all her Yorkies she uses a small moustache trimmer and trims the tip of the ears at the top 1/3 and this will help the ears pop up. Our little guy has one floppy ear but I think it is adorable, however it really seemed to bother this nosey lady!!

| I guess if they don't have ears, it's not a good thing...

The only thing I would think about the ears - and "bad breeding" is that it is more desirable and closer to standard to have a Yorkie with smaller ears. But being real particular about this should matter only to a person who might want to show their dog - or breed dogs that could be shown. The size of a Yorkie's ears is quite apparent when they are very young. My 8-week-old pup had "huge" ears - and though he has grown into them somewhat, they are still very large....and they stand "straight up." He looks like a "little coyote" to me at times.....cute cute cute!!! I certainly wouldn't go so far as to consider this "bad breeding." Don't we all know how different our little Yorkies look - different sizes, different colors, different ears (some up, some down, some small, some big), etc. etc. etc. If you look at the pictures of Yorkies on YorkieTalk - you'll see all different sized ears. And, all these dogs are cute, wonderful pets. Carol Jean

not all perfect My 11 month old Yorkie's ears do not stand up at all. I was not concerned about this, or I would have tried some of the ideas you hear to get them to stand up. She is way too cute the way it is! I do always check her ears on bath day and her groomer takes special care with them also.
