How much to feed a puppy? Ness (we decided on a name, haha) has been eating not too much, so I've been free feeding him. In his little rice bowl, he could eat a half a bowl in about two days. Half a bowl is probably about.. oh, 30-40 pieces I'd say. Well today he ate it all so I filled it up halfway again, went to work, and 4 hours later it's all gone and he's begging for more! So how much should I be feeding him? I don't want him to be a fatty, but he ate two days worth of food in a few hours. Does this just mean he's growing? For reference, he's two days short of 12 weeks and weighs between 1.5 and 2 pounds.

Probably about 1/2 cup a day, but I would let him eat as much dry as he wants. You don't have to worry about a puppy getting fat (unless its by table scraps and treats).

Sounds like he is a very little dog to me - and entitled to eat all he wants!!! You can always keep an eye on his weight - and until, he seems to be getting a little heavier than he should be, I wouldn't worry about the amount he is eating. I know my dogs eat more some days than they do others. And, I am sure (we people) don't eat the same amount every day.....some days we eat less, and other days we can't eat enough. Keep good healthy food available for your pup and watch his weight. Good luck! Carol Jean

Yea, he is pretty small. We were going for a 5-6 pound dog, but we'll see how he turns up... The food he eats is Natural Choice puppy food. The breeder had him on Purina, which he (Ness) vastly prefers, so I keep a little baggy of it and use them as treats

| Just be glad he eats! He is growing and needs good food.it would be different if it was treats.he is probably adjusting to weaning and will settle down. Enjoy! If he doesn't look like a barrel, don't worry.
