I am so upset! Straszny was recently nuetered, and I mentioned the subject of having teeth pulled to the vet. That was almost 3 weeks ago. The vet looked in his mouth, and said that I did NOT have to worry about that yet, making me think that it was too early, that the teeth shouldn't be pulled yet becuase none of them were/are loose.

Well, I noticed in his mouth today that he has FOUR double canine teeth! It hasn't even been 3 weeks...could these theeth all have came in that quickly? I was gone on a mission trip for a week of that time, so I wasn't with him to notice the change, but today I looked in his mouth, and AHH!

I am so upset to have him put under again...
is this the vets fault?

If I have them removed, will there still be problems due to the adult teeth being pushed in or out? The top ones are not grown in quite as much as the bottoms ones. Should I expect this with more teeth now?

My Penny is 9 months old and just two days ago lost her to top canines, baby teeth. She has had two baby and two permanent for almost 3 months now. And suddenly they were gone, I didnt even notice that the baby teeth were loose.

So I guess what I am saying is be patient and hopefully they will come out on there own...

This exact thing happened to me!!

Got him nuetered, vet said his teeth were fine, and then within the month he had doubles on all 4!!

We didn't really want to put him back under so soon, so we decided to just let him have his doubles for a little while (the vet said it wouldn't cause too much harm if we left them in for a little while longer). And now he only has one set of doubles, the rest fell out on their own!! YAY!

I am so glad, and I think the last one is kind of loose, so I am hoping that one falls out soon, or else the vet will have to take it out.

The *funny* thing, is that the vet told us there was no way that those teeth would fall out on their own. I guess he was wrong.

Brush his teeth in the meantime with Novaldent, and floss them, (I know, sounds like a lot of trouble but will cut down on doggie breath and bacteria) and he MAY lose them on his own, if not, by no more than a year or so, you'll need to have the vet re-evaluate him, he may be able to quickly pull them in the office w/out anesthesia (just like a kids tooth) or the root may be so deep he'll have to be put under again, but will be a good time for a tooth cleaning.

I waited on one of mine until I was SURE she wasn't going to have to have a C-section to have ONE canine pulled, and by the time she had her puppies, she'd lost it on her own...she was 18 months.. like you I didn't want to put her under more times than necissary. Fortunately no c-section (I'm a worry wart!) and no teeth pulling necissary.. now they are weaned, she needs a dental from eating puppy poo, SHEW!

When Amy was in the vets yesterday being spayed,he noticed Amy had a double set of K9's.
Anyway when we went to collect her,the vet told us that he had removed the baby teeth

as they where not showing any signs of being loose.
This was done without my consent,
and i am not very happy about it

,he is also charging us for it.
She is only 7 and a half months old bless her.
Should i go back and have words with him?
What would you have done?

Gosh no, be glad its over and done with and she was only put under once.

No guarantee she'd have lost them on her own. He could have called you when he noticed she had them, but I wouldn't be upset at all...I'd be glad, but I have a good repor with my vet, he knows what I would want.

Avery was neutered at seven months. The vet didn't remove his extra teeth at the time and I thought it was a given! Last week at 14 months old, he had to go back under to have two removed or they would cause his permanent teeth to splay out. It cost almost $250 with the blood work, etc. Be glad it was done all at once; it saved you a TON of money and your puppy only had to be put under one time!

How do you know which are baby teeth and which are permanent? Bella is the first puppy I've ever owned. She's almost 15 weeks old. Could any of her current teeth be her permanent teeth???

The same thing happened to me... I asked the vet to check her teeth when she was being spayed... About 3-4 weeks later, she had two sets of canines! I think that maybe the adult teeth hadn't begun to come in yet and because he couldn't see two teeth, he didn't want to pull them. Wouldn't want to risk pulling an adult tooth and not a baby! Fortunately, they came out on their own after a couple weeks.

Cheske's Bella.... Adult teeth usually start coming in around 6 months. Just check her teeth occassionally (and more frequently when she gets closer to 6 months) to be sure there isn't an extra tooth or two in there. Now is a good time to get her used to having her teeth brushed too!

these teeth are VERY solid. they are not loose at all..but he is only 6 mo old, so I guess that there is still hope?

I am going to call the vet today, but I am not sure what to do now...and if I should expect a lot more "doulbe" teeth.

I agree with the others on waiting to see if they come out on their own. Gage had double canines on the top only. When I took him in for his "manhood stripping" pre-appointment, I asked the vet if he could remove them and asked how much more it would be. Guess it's the advantage of being in a small town (or that my vet and I went to high school together) but there was no extra charge. He said "we'll have him under anesthesia anyway, so we'll go ahead and pull them". As luck would have it, when I took him back in the next day for the procedure, he had lost the teeth overnight.

Yeah, that happened to Gracie - one day there was one set of teeth and it seems like the next day there were two sets.
