Default Grouchy sleeping baby?!HELP

Ok does your alls yorkies ever do this? When Hayley is a sllep and ya want to pick her up or move her she growls and acts like she want to bite....I have stared correcting her by firmly telling her no and moving her anyways, hubby thinks its cute but I dont. she use to do this when I washed her face but I stopped it after a few corrections. I would never hit her but I dont like her being grouchy to me at all. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. thanks in advance

I had one little dog that did that. Not real little - about 20 pounds - a little Walt Disney mutt.

She was by far the sweetest, most gentle dog in the world that I have ever had - but when she was in bed (or even comfortably sleeping on the sofa) -- I would fear for the life of anyone who tried to move her. If anyone attempted to move her, she became this ferocious, growling, teeth-bearing wild animal. It was all show and scared everyone to death - she never (her whole life long) bit anyone. I would just tell her "Don't even think about it" and move her if I needed to. But it worked for her --- very few people had the nerve to even get near her - let alone move her.

The one time she would try to be especially vicious was when she got to sleep with my granddaughter.....this was when she thought she had died and gone to heaven. She totally especially loved to sleep with any children....

She was definitely saying "Don't move me - I want to stay right here!!!!!!"

But like I said - with her, it was all show!!!

Sounds like your dog is the same way.

I would keep correcting her. If you don't she will keep doing it. Remmy used to do this with my daughter (my daughter is older 14) but basically he is saying you rank lower than me in the pack. He never did it to me. So I told my daughter that you have to correct him and tell him "NO" or else he will keep doing this to you. He wants you to leave him alone. So I would keep correcting her and telling her "no".

Yes Tigger used to do this, but I think he's growing out of it as we always move him so that my boyfriend and I can cuddle.

Harley use to bite me, i tried "no" several times and didn't have any luck, so i asked my vet one day what to do, she told me to pick him up and hold his mouth shut for a min. and keep saying no, and i haven't had a problem with him biting anyone after that, i had to do it a few times, but it worked - but when there sleeping i let them sleep until they feel like getting up...

The things you think are cute now become behavorial problems later. You are doing the right thing by correcting her. After a few times of this she should break out of it.

I was going to say the same thing. I get very grouchy if someone does this too.

Gus will growl at the kids. He has never bitten them, but I tell them to tell him no and pick him up anyway. The one thing we have to work on is when he's on my lap or I'm holding him he wont let anyone touch me or him. I have to put him down and then they can get him. He'll be ok if I say, Gus be nice. But he still will give them that look out of the corner of his eyes.

Just this morning I was holding him and told Des to get him and put his sweater on while I get Cherish dressed. And he growled at her. He's ok if I hand him to her but if she tries to take him from my arms he'll growl.

TyPerk,

QUOTING YOU ---- The things you think are cute now become behavorial problems later. You are doing the right thing by correcting her. After a few times of this she should break out of it.

-------------------------

Somethings never change. The story I told about my dog -- happened from the time she was a pup -- and continued until she was more than ten years old - when I lost her last fall. (This was never only a puppy thing.) She was honestly the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever owned - and never did bite anyone in her life for any reason. But - regardless of this, her entire life long, she let it be known that she definitely wanted to stay put - when she was sleeping on my bed.

And - this was a simple fix - we just let her sleep until she was ready to get up. But remember - I did mention that I could tell her to "not even think about it" and move her anyway, if I wanted to...

It was never a problem - and, you'll never know how many times I look at my bed and wish she was still there.

I think that's a great last line, sorry you lost your baby. I can't imagine Georgie not being in my bed he doesn't growl at me though he kinda makes baby noises and falls back to sleep.
