Default My Rocky cries...

Hello everyone I am new here
I have 11 months old york name Rocky and he is absolutely gorgeous! He is the cutest little guy
But there is one thing I wanted to ask you... When me and my husband leave home for work Rocky is very sad and starts to cry..
and he acts like that everyday I don't know what to do! it breaks my heart when he is that sad..
Generally Rocky is very, very emotional so I guess he misses us very much.

Please advise me what should I do.

Welcome to YT you have come to a great place for information. I can't exactly help you with your baby Rocky because Georgie does the same thing, and I work from home so when I do leave for 1 hour meetings he is a mess. I would suggest if you do a search on here and type in seperation anxiety there is wealth of information on it. Good luck and let me know if you have any success, because I can totally relate.

Do you have him in a crate when you leave/ best thing is to not make a big thing out of it ,just kind of quitely slip out,no emotional goodbys or such.
Also leave a radio or tv on when going out.favorite stuffed animals with your scent on it also helps....good luck.

Well Chloe used to do this same thing too, and it made me so sad that I would cry so we bought another yorkie and now they dont mind being home alone bc they have each other when we leave!

Yea but I think I spoil Georgie too much if that's possible, because he is like a child when I leave. I wait for my fiance' to play with him then I sneak out. Some people say not to make it a big deal when you come back but that's hard for me because I am as excited to see him as he is me One thing I will mention is that when you leave try to leave a TV on and some toys for him to play with as well. Oh and if you look up on the top right you will see the word search you can click on it and type what you are looking for in. Again good luck and glad you found YT

I must say that it sounds like a good idea, but I am not fure if my husband agrees with that.. I mean he says that 1 wife and 1 crazy little doggy is just about enough for him
but seriously, if this is the only way to help him, maybe I should think about it..

I think getting another Yorkie would help, but I will tell you Georgie has a big sister who is a boxer and he stills cries. However, I am sure he calms down after awhile and they play together.

have you guys tried leaving rocky alone a little bit at a time? does he cry if you're in one room and he's in another? does he have enough toys, food, water, while you're gone? have you tried taking him to doggie daycare a few times a week so that he won't be too lonely while you're gone? when he cries, do you give in and attend to him immediately? (don't attend to him until he's quiet, otherwise he'll learn that crying will get your attention immediately and keep doing it) have you tried anything to curb separation anxiety?

bunjee used to have the same problem. really bad separation anxiety. so bad in fact i got a little "letter of concern" from one of my neighbors because of all the noise. i was unsuccessful with crate training. ignoring is only okay during the day, not at night since i live in a condo complex. and even giving him the run of the kitchen and having the kitchen gated didn't help.

i finally did figure out something tho. i'm not sure if bunjee is just neurotic that way, but he is particularlly anxious if we are separated by anything visible like a gate. if he's never seen me on the other side of a gate, then he's okay. so i moved the baby gate to give him more room and separate the tiled areas from the carpet area. and it worked like a charm. he stopped crying when he's by himself in his new space and is content with just laying in his bed until i return. it's the weirdest thing. but i'm not about to question it if it works.

another thing i do is i walk him or play fetch with him for 20 min before i leave for a few hours. it tires him out so that he just wants to rest and sleep for a little bit. when i'm gone for a few hours, he'll usually just nap until i return anyways.

i thought about getting a companion for bunjee, and i'm still thinking about it! but the thing is, it's not a guarantee that it'll curb separation anxiety or barking and i can't afford to have two barkers in one home! i'll prolly eventually still get another doggie, and hopefully, bunjee will teach the new little one all the good habits mommy's taught him.

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you for your loooong advise
Well, the thing is that sometimes Rocky cries even when we are home with him. I guess he just needs more attention..although I am not sure if I can pay more attention! Surely he is spoiled, but I don't know how to be more strict...
he has everything he needs, that is food, water, toys..so this is not an issue..
I know that he stops crying after a while, but hearing this makes me very sad

i kno it's sad to hear him cry but if you keep giving in to his cries and pay attention to him when he cries, he'll learn that his cries will recall you to his side and keep doing it! so as hard as it is, you'll have to ignore, ignore, ignore. don't give him any attention until he stops. then go get him and play with him as a reward for being quiet.

after a while he'll learn that crying won't be rewarded with attention. but staying quiet will. good luck!

I must try then! My husband keeps telling me that this is my fault that Rocky acts like that, becasue I spoiled him too much.. and probably he is right!
Anyway I will be more strict, at least I will try
Thank you again for your help !

Chloe did not cry but she looked so sad I bought another one for company. I also leave the TV on Animal Planet for them.
