| A cold??? Hi everyone it is me once again your ever annoying pest with questions!...lol Last week I took Bridget to the vet and she was diagnosed with a sore throat and an ear infection. The put her on a oral antibiotic and a ear wash and antibiotic drops for her ears. However since then although she is doing better, seems to have a runny nose. Now I may as always be just a over protective mommy, and a new one at that but is there anything I can do for her, or should I be worried? I have another vet appt for monday, but I was wondering if it could be anything that needs to be addressed sooner. She is playing eating and sleeping like normal but occasionally sneezes and has the whole runny nose thing. It is not a constant run, no is it extreamly drippy, but I notice it ever now and again, esp when I am tring to give her the meds. Any thoughts on this? Or and is there another way to give her the oral meds, she fights me every time I try to give them to her, and I feel like a big meanie. I do it only because I know she really needs to be on them, but she is so little and I am afraid sometimes because she wiggles and fights so much I might accidently drop her or hurt her somehow. I try to be very careful, but many times I have to give the medsallby myself, and even though I am sitting on my bed while I do it I just dont want anything to go wrong and have anything happen. I would really appriecate any help... agian.

| Hi Marlee, Well since you baby is already on antibiotics and is eating, sleeping, playing..etc. I would think with her diagnosis a runny nose would be typical and no cause for alarm. When you find the easy way to give meds pass it on to me!!.......lol I usually give meds in a sitting position with puppy held against my stomach, I insert a finger at the very back of the mouth on one side(not fully in the mouth just a bit and apply a bit of pressure), and squirt the meds on the other side, or a really stubborn dog or puppy, I insert thumb on one side of the mouth and a finger on the other and squirt meds in with the other hand. That back area of the mouth when a tiny bit of pressure is applied acts as a hinge effect and they just open up. |

| That's the way we give Toto's too, luvdorkyyorkies, and it's easier most of the time if I do it myself rather than have help! If it's yucky medicine that Toto tries to spit out ... I close her mouth after putting some back there and gently rub her throat and it forces her to swallow it. She is so accustomed to this method it's usually really easy ... she knows it's useless to resist, because if it's something she needs she knows she's gonna get it!!
