| People that travel with their Yorkies We just returned from a trip to Minnesota. I took both Teddy who is 14 months as well as Toby who is 16 weeks with me. Toby was a traveling champ and he was the one I was worried about. Ted is usually an excellent travelor but this trip he had definite issues! First he wouldn't go to the bathroom along the way. I swear to god there were times I could see his eye balls floating in his head and we would stop and he would do nothing. It drove me insane and when we stopped for the night what did he do but he jumped up in the hotel bed and peed right in the middle of the bed! Next day it was the same thing...he wouldn't go and when we arrived at my Mom's he again jumped up in the bed and did his business again. I was shocked he never does that at home. He settled in nicely and the next day he resumed his normal habits of going outdoors. Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue when traveling? He has been on other trips with us and never behaved this way before and I don't want to leave him home but I fear if I can't come up with a solution I may have to.

| My guess is he is mad at you. A dog I had years ago would do that. At midnight I would come home for work and she just peed on the middle of my bed. I had to go to my moms to wash it right then, I didn't have any other sheets and stuff. I ended up making her an outside dog. She loved it outside and she was a big girl as well.

| We take Wisnton up to New Jersey, it's about a 13 hours drive (with traffic). He refuses to go the whole 13 hours. We's stop at rest stops, picnic areas, etc. and he will not even walk. But he will drink and eat like normal. By the time we get to NJ or home, I can tell that he is dying to go. We stay at the same hotel each time, so he has this tree that he will go under but I have to pretty much stand under that tree for at least 10-15 minutes. The pee on the bed? Maybe it's a safe and clean area for him.

| Sounds like he is mad at you as well. He may not be used to being with another dog on trips. Maybe give him extra love and attention and he will get past that. I can't take George down the street much less on a trip. He is swermy and very restless in the car. My neice can take her Yorkie Oliver anywhere and he will just lay there and sleep

| Thanks for the thoughts....He didn't seem mad to me and besides the bathroom issue he loves to travel. To me it's like he is shy to go in public places. He did fine on the same trip last year but since he turned a year old there have been some definite personality changes that I have noticed in regard to people, other dogs and strange places. He is set to begin a reactive dog class this weekend and I am hoping that the behavior specialist will be able to provide me with some insight. It was just frustrating knowing he had to go. I love him traveling with us so I hope this is something that can be resolved with time.

| Don't ya know how he feels being away from his toilet? Not sure why this is a "new" problem but when Shelby was 5 months old we took our first road trip and she would NOT pee. little puppy went 8 hours! Now we practice strange pee pee places all the time and she loves it. We walk together every day and she loves peeing and pooping all over town, especially where other dogs have gone. Practice. |
