| fighting yorkies all i keep seeing everywhere is how careful you have to be with your yorkie like they are made out of china, all i have to say is ive never had one that was.my yorkie scampi loved nothing better than having a punch up with another dog and the bigger the better he was a nightmare to take out .my dad also had a wire haired fox terrier that scampi hated with a passion who he had a few fights with, if would be a nightmare to split them up as scampi wouldnt let go of the dogs neck.then a few years later scampi and one of his sons started fighting all of a sudden and for no reason as they had lived together and got on well for years, one time my mum and i had to hold them on the floor for an hour so they couldnt shake each other and cos we couldnt get them apart, we put them in the bath and turned the water on them but still they held on to each other, in the end the only reason we got them apart was cos one of them went to get a better grip of the other one and we pulled them apart. sasha the female i had who was also the mother of scampis sons loved to fight aswell,i was out with her once and a rotty ran towards us i went to grab her and she had already gone ,i turned around to see her running at this rotty barking and growling like some mad mop with teeth and i thought oh my god its gonna kill her, the owner of the rotty was running behind his dog shouting at it and i was running after sasha shouting at her, then all of a sudden the rotty looked at sasha running at him with a look of im gonna rip ya ear off look on her face and spun around and ran off so sasha not wanting to go home without a bit of rotty between her teeth kept running after it ,in the end they where running around and around in circles the rotty in front sasha right behind it biting its back legs then me behind her and then the rottys owner behind me,i made on mad grab for her and just managed to get her,the look of oh my god thankyou for saving me on the rottys face was priceless, the rotty owner said that his dog was always trying to attack other dogs but after sasha had sorted him out he didnt think he would again have any of you got a yorkie that is a nightmare for fighting? |

| My two dont fight like that. They play fight but it is never too rough. If they did I would take them to a trainer.

| Yorkies I do not find the 5 pounds and up to be prone to accidents and illness. The tinies can have a more difficult time in life simply because they are so small. People step on them and they fall off furniture. A tiny can not have a couple bad days and not eat..if you weigh 3 pounds, you can not afford to lose half pound..the biggers one can lose a pound and not be at deaths door. I find and have been told by many vets that the Yorkie is the hardiest of the toy breeds. They can take the cold if they are exposed to it on a daily basis. In the USA we have a problem with the Yorkie being number 3 among the most popular breeds. When that happens you get alot of greedy breeders over breeding and not paying attention to health. When my father started breeding Yorkies, he started with 4 imported UK bitches..they were bred into a very good US lines and produce very sturdy, healthy pups. The Uk Yorkies have excellent coloring and tend to be more of a true terrier then ours here in the US IMO...All things take time and good breeders willl retain that terrier if they are wise. |

| mine didnt fight for years then as i said just stared to for no reason, well i say no reason zac that was the son had a load of fits and was very ill and it happened after that,it was cos he got more attention cos he was ill and thought he was now top dog and not scampi,so i just re,inforced scampi as top dog and thay all got on fine again,so i didnt need a trainer. also as for them not liking strange dogs i see that as normal as after all they might be yorkies but they are still TERRIERS.

| yeah i tottally agree with you if the yorkie is only tiny it can get hurt a lot easyer. its a shame so many people want the so called tea cup yorkie which has only come about by breeding the runts of the litter and so on till you have a dog with health problems and so tiny it can be killed by just a little bump on the head.

| Yep, I have a houseful of them. It is not uncommon to have 2 of mine start fighting over a toy and next thing you know it is gang warfare in my house. The worst of the bunch is Moose who is #4 and he will go after anything. I have been know to drop the phone to break up a fight with 5 dogs. I have become very good at it. I only have this problem with toys and it starts with the 2 biggest ones but then everyone will jump in for the kill. I only allow toys outside now and with supervision. I think they are a rowdy group who will challenge anyone.

| We have a bunch of rowdy characters and their toys are quickly and easy to blame. Sassy is alpha, Sissy is timid. But, you can't tell who is who when they lock horns, which can be several times a week. They actually stalk each other like predators. It is definitely not play fighting. Reggie is getting older and doesn't like to have anyone in her face, and lets them know it in no uncertain terms. The other do more than play fight, but it seems to end quickly with them. Sassy and Sissy don't know when to let it go.
