Sounds Like something stuck in Annis's throat [B] This morning my husnand came in with what looked like a piece of twisted up tape and said he found it by Annies feet..and now she was making strange sounds like she was trying to clear her throat..not coughing or chokinging , no wheeze..just like something was stuck and she is trying to get it out..I gave her a piece of bread (my gram always thought that helped if you choked on something) and she is drinking and eating but she is still making that sound every now and then like she is trying to clear something out of her throat..She may have swallowed some of the tape or whatever she found. Does anyone know what I can do or if this will work it self out..I wil be watching for answer o ryou can send me private message...I don't know if we should take her to the vet becaus eshe seems to be perfectly calm for a while and then starts that again...Annie'sOm

Riley did the same thing a couple months ago...swallowing hard, stretching his neck, coughing and making little gagging noises. I tried the same thing with the bread, banana and treats trying to get him to swallow whatever it was. I called the vet and they wanted me to rush him in...they thought it could be upper respritory (sp?) but he didn't have a runny nose, eyes, rattling in his chest etc... I kept him home to watch him overnight and it turns out he had swallowed part of a leaf (the scrub oak leaves in Florida are like leather) and it scratched the side of his throat. It took him a couple days but he was fine and during that time I only let him have soft food so it wouldn't make it worse. I would recommend you check with your vet though just to be sure and put your mind at ease. Oh, yes, he learned...he doesn't eat leaves anymore! I hope Annie is o.k. too.

Dori has done the same thing a few times. I thought she had something stuck the first time too. I took her to the emergency vet because it was a Sunday. They checked her out and said she was fine, and she probably just scratched her throat. She irritates her throat quite often with Mini Dingo bones, bully bones, hair, and she used to eat the carpet! Every time she ate the carpet she did that dry heave thing -like she is going to throw up but doesn't. The vet said carpet fibers scratch their throat. It sounds horrible, but her throat is probably just irritated. Your dog probably scratched her throat with the tape. Dori has never done it for more than 2o minutes though. Hope your furbaby is ok!

I did call the vet and she told me to give Annie some cough medicine because she could have kennel cough or a flu..I told her it didn't sound like she was coughing and she was eating and running around...The vet also said she could have scratched her throat. Whatever it was seems to be fine now..I did give her some cough medicine earlier but I really don't think she has a cold. Interesting about the leaves..she is always picking up leaves too. Annie had the shot for kennel cough when she was 3 mos old (she is 5 mos now) The vet said that even if they do get the shot there are 5 different strains of it and she could still get one. I was surprised at that. So thanks for the concern. I will watch her very close tonight and hopefully it was nothing serious..or maybe that was some kind of magic cough medicine I gave her...Went to the drug store and got baby cough syrup with a dropper.....What we won't do for these little things....
