Kiss Help With My New Yorkie...

Hello all I am a new member to yorkie talk as well as to owning my own yorkie. I just got her yesterday but i have some questions. She hasn't eaten much nor drank much since she has been home. She has been peeing alot on her puppy pad and my floor may I add lol. I purchased something from the petshop called Super Cal due to me not seeing the Nutrical or Nutri Stat. It has and does the same thing as the others. I gave her a finger full on her tongue but I would like to know is this normal for her not to be eating or drinking, or is it from the long plane ride she had yesterday. I am getting alittle worried because I want my babe girl to be ok and not get sick. If anyone can help or knows someone who can help I would be gladly appreciated in anything that you can do. You can either send it here or email me @ strawberrydelite23@msn.com. Once again Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! She is probably still scared from all the new changes in her life. I would make sure you give her the Super Cal and try putting a little water on your fingers and let her lick it off. What are you feeding her? You could try adding a little canned food, but just a tiny bit. Are you taking her to the vet soon? If she is not eating make sure she is getting the nutrical. Good luck can't wait to see pictures.

It is very normal for her not to be eating after such a stressful ordeal. How old is she? You can add some Karo syrup to her water to keep her sugar level from dropping. And for right now giver her anything that you can get her to eat. Cottage cheese is good, canned chicken is good. In a day or to she'll be more relaxed. As long as she is peeing and pooping she must be getting something.

Hope that helps.

Congratulations and Welcome to YT.

Hi and welcome to YT! It's normal for her not to be too interested in eating the first couple of days. You can try to use a dropper or syringe to try to get her to drink. It's important that she stay hydrated. Has she had any poopies yet? Sometimes they will be a little runny from the stress of going into a new home. If this is the case you can try a little chicken and rice. How old is she, what's her name and where are the pictures! lol We like lots of details about and PICTURES of new babies! Let us know how things are going and I hope I could be of some help to you. We're glad you decided to join our family here! Others will be coming on with more help and advice...be rest assured!

aww... well first- welcome!! and congrats on your new baby!!
its pretty normal for them to be all weirded out the first few days, so do not panic tooo much. Def set up a vet appt asap, just for your own peace of mind, and of course to make sure your baby is healthy! the nutrical should help and if your baby isnt drinking, get an eye dropper to help her drink, a member gave me that tip once and it was the most useful info i ever got. she is prob stressed from the trip and new environment, so give her a few days to get used to her new surroundings and in now time she will be licking you like crazy! best of luck with her! let us know how she is doing and post some pics when you get a chance :]

Congrats!!! I can definitely sympathize with you! When I got Jewel, she didn't walk or poop for a week and 1/2 and I had to force feed her soft Physician's Diet food. I gave her the Nutri-Cal and that was the only time she moved a few inches on her own. She would pee on the floor or the pad but she would just sit in it afterwards. I purchased a male as well and he was and still is a rambunctious lil' fellow (Cash). He would abuse her and she would do nothing. I worried something awful and took her to the dr. over that week and a half and they said I may want to consider returning her for another. I brought her back and once the breeder put her in the den she originally came from, she was hopping around like a lil' rabbit, she made her mess instantly and ran off to play with her litter mates. We then realized that she was just in shock! You need to make sure she eats 3-4 meals a day and gets enough water even if you need to force feed her. keep trying to coax her with the Nutri-Cal. Consult with your vet if you are still unsure it is better to be safe than sorry! Take her back to where you purchase her and see if she will pull a Jewel move on you. . .and ask for an exchange extension. . .if the seller is responsible they should allow it so that you are comfortable. Good Luck and Keep us posted! Cash and Jewel have you in their thoughts!!! . . . my breeder also said to let her be . . .not to smother her so that she can get a feel for her surroundings and when you do go to pick her up try to get to her level as much as possible so that she does not cower . . .pups usually will not starve themselves if the food is available, but if she still isn't responding put the food on the roof of her mouth lil' bits at a time.

Hello and thank you for replying to my post. She is eating Eukanuba puppy, and yes I have given her a tiny bit of meat along with her dry food. Today she seems to have been drinking more and she made another poop this morning yayy..I mixed some meat, dry and a little of the Super Cal in her dish and she ate alittle of it. I guess you right about shes still trying to get used to being away from her siblings back @ the breeders. I have pictures of her in the galleria so check them out if you can. Take care

Thank you for your reply to my post, I have been holding her alot instead of letting her roam the house. She has made two poops since she been here and earlier this morning she drank more water than when she first had water, also she ate the little dish i put together for her, it was just alittle though. The food you were referring for me to put in her mouth was it for the dry food? or the meat? It will be impossible for me to take her back being as though she flew in from texas where I purchased her @. I am in Washington, DC. I am going to take her to the vet and keep giving her the Super Cal along with trying to force her to eat her food. She wants to be stubborn I guess. Thank you for all your concerns and I will keep you posted. Take care

Hello everyone,

It is so nice to see how everyone shares advice here and how kind and generous you guys are with your time to reply with such lengthy emails. I know I speak for all the new members when I say how invaluable your emails are. As I live in Finland and don't speak the language I rely heavily on what I read on this website and it has helped both myself and Poppy so so much.

So I would like to say how much I appreciate and enjoy all your kind advice.

Thank you very very much.

Congratulations! She is probably still scared... if you are really worried about the water in take or food intake.. get a syringes and hand water her. If you have wet food you can do the same. Or hand feed her the hard food.

I had to do this to my Bunny for about 3 months. She would not eat or drink on her own. I also Nutri cal her 3 times a day (My vet recommended it)

Now I cant get her to STOP eating

Thank you for your reply to my post. I have been hand feeding her and she seems to eat it more from my hand than her dish. I only gave her the Super Cal once though should I give it to her more? She is drinking alittle more water now on her own. She also made two poopies so far. She seems to eat her vitamins and bisquit with no problem though. I will keep everyone informed on our progress and I am so appreciated with all the replies. For I am only 23 yrs. old and a new mommy to my little Babe Girl (her name). We will be keeping everyone up to date with pics and progress. Take care

Yes any advice that anyone can gives helps me out alot. Thank you for your reply, she will be 8 weeks on the 23rd of this month. Yes she pees alot and she made two poops so far. I will do just that in trying to hand feed her. She seems to eat it more from my hand than her dish? why is that? She is however drinking more water now from her dish which is alittle better progress. I have pictures on the galleria if you would like to see my little baby. Take care for now and we will keep everyone posted.
