| How many breeding females to have. As you all know I am a new breeder of yorkies. I have two females Tasha is two and Jersey will be two in june. I am on the hunt for a stud. How many breeding females and studs do you keep? I keep all of them in the house with me so I wondered should I get a couple more females. So that is why i ask how many you all have. I don't want to have too many because yes I will breed them but they will all always be the same as a pet to me. So I wanted to make sure I could give each what i wanted and she and he needed.so just wanted some input on this. Thanks.

| I don't breed so I can't give you my advice but Daisy's breeder had about 8 females (2 retired) and 1 male. Bear's breeder had 3 females 1 male. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I feel that a breeder shouldn't have more dogs than they can handle. I currently have 2 females and 1 male. I will be adding one more female at some point but feel that 4 dogs will be all that I can and want to handle.

| I wondered if most breeders had one stud or two or three for variety..I wasn't sure on that one. I would prefer to have just one but wondered if it'd be better to have two..Is there any that have two studs that are kept in the house ..do they get along or do they fight alot?

| I have 2 breeding females and I just added one. I have one stud but I have another male yorkie that is fixed and another maltese that is fixed as well. So I have 6 total but that is about all I can handle....... plus my parrot. If you have one stud... the downside is you cannot keep down a nice female if you bred it. I have a girl now that is turning out to be soooo gorgeous... but I will not breed back to the dad so I have to sell. I say only have what you can handle. |

| I have to agree with everyone on what you can afford, love & care for. If you are looking for a stud you want to evaluate your females and find the stud that is going to compliment and improve any of their faults to keep improving the breed. You will have to have that critical eye and it is hard for us sometimes as are babies are beautiful to us. If you can find a stud that can improve on both of your females faults keeping the lines in mind there should be no need for two, unless you are planning to hold back from your own breedings. With a stud be prepared to have belly bands, to save your home...

| As much as I love my yorkies I can pick out their faults. I just hope I can find a stud that has what I want. Or as close to what i want as I can get. I was planning on holding back a pup from each girl which would put me at 4 , now I need to decide to have one boy or two boys. Decisions decisions lol
