| I also trim mine's nails. I just take off a little bit (1/8 inch) every other week. The longer you let a nail grow the higher the blood line will grow so even if you need more off just take off small amounts slowly and the bloodline will pull back. You won't be able to see the bloodline on dark nails. You may want to have styptic powder on hand just in case you do clip too short or cornstarch works well too. |

| I just went and did all of K.C.'s nails and noted the time. I do all of his grooming too. He's really worse about trimming the hair on his ears than he is doing his nails. Anyway, it took 4 minutes to find the nail clippers (large human toenail clippers), do it and sit back down. He seems to be better with it now that I started training with a clicker, maybe the clicking noise scared him and now he is use to it. |

| I use the clippers for dogs with the hole. It is very easy to put the nail in the hole and choose the length and then squeeze. They are round tipped and it is not as scary to me! Good luck and be brave. I agree with Lacy's mom, cut a little frequently and before you know it they will be in control. They seem to wear them easier after trim, too.

| After trying/buying an electric grinder and dog clippers, I found the easiest method was to have the puppy/dog sit on my lap while I filed her nails with a coarse file (it's black and costs about $1) that I purchase from Sally's Beauty Supply. Our dog doesn't mind having her feet held, but she does mind the sound of the electric grinder and the feel of the dog clippers. |
