| Duffy taking care of Jasmine Some of you may remember when Jasmine ran off and ran down to the road not long ago. Duffy ran after her and stayed with her the whole time. The next time she ran out the door, I said "get her Duffy" and he ran and stood over her and held her down until I got to her. The boys go outside to Potty but Jasmine goes on potty pads. Every time she goes out the door, Duffy corrals her back in. One day she got almost off the deck and he picked her up by the back of her neck and brought her back in. Just like a mama dog carries her puppies. Last Sunday it was so beautiful and warm here so I walked out on the deck and the two boys, Duffy and Murphy followed me out. I left the patio door open and called to Jasmine to come out. Duffy wouldn't let her come out. I had to call him to me and hold him to keep him from putting her back in the door. Duffy is always carrying sticks up on the deck. We think it is because my husband picks up sticks for kindling for our fireplace. Since Duffy has seen Bill pick them up now he is constantly bringing sticks up by the door. Sometimes Jasmine will try to run out and grab a stick to chew on. I take them away from her but she still tries to get one. Yesterday, Duffy came in the house, walked over to Jasmine and laid a stick down by her and backed off a couple of steps and watched her. It was as if he knew she would like it and it was a gift from him. Of course, she loved it and carried it around all day. I didn't have the nerve to take it away from her as the companionship between the two is so sweet. I love the way he looks after her. She bosses him around and she is 5 lbs and he is probably 18 or 20. They say animals can't reason, but some of the things they do and the way they know everything we say to them is amazing. I think they are a lot smarter than some people think they are. The people at work look at me as if I am crazy when I tell some of the things they do. |

| OMG you have such a smart and wonderful little boy! Isn't it amazing what animals can really do and how much personality they have? I love stories like this. I always like to share them with those people who say, "They're just dogs." ~Yeah right!

| Anyone who says dogs don't reason was never owned by a Yorkie. We have Skylar, whom we call "Nanny"because she is such a tattler. She lets me know (but of course, I have to do the guessing part) when I need to do something. She gets terribly upset if 2 pups are playing and one is on the bottom too long.. Somebody is closed in the utility room..Skylar lets me know. BUT, she makes me nuts because she cannt say words..I have to say " Skylar, whattya want?"; Where?; what; "ya gotta help me!'..We love that in her. She had one litter and I am retiring her. She will go to a pet home and train some other hooman in the care and up-bringing of a Nanny Yorkie named Skylar... |
