| Play time Do Yorkies need constant playtime when they are awake? I want to give her all of the attention she needs, and we really enjoy playing with her. However, I'm wondering if it's appropriate to put her in her crate during the day for some alone time for her. I don't want to raise a dog who expects to be entertained every minute she's awake. I want her to enjoy her 'me' time, just like I do |

| You don't need to constantly entertain your yorkie when she is awake. And it is fine to keep in her the crate for some alone time. It will help her develop some independence. |

| I put Snickers in his crate about 2 times during the day, not only so he can have a break from everyone, but so I can too!!! I dont see anything wrong with it, in fact they say they need a place where they can go away from everything else. Dont feel guilty about it, everyone needs a break once in awhile, just dont put her in there for a long period of time, I usually leave Snickers in there for about an hour and when he comes out he goes outside to go potty and back inside ready to play!!

| Help! We need a break! Our Yorkie, Daisy, is now a year old. At night, from the time we get home until past the time we want to go to bed, Daisy constantly wants to play. It's non-stop. So we either play with her, or hear her constantly bark. Has anyone experienced this and found a good trick so that we can have any quiet time? Thanks! |

| gee! i wish my pup would play MORE! he wants to be with my 24/7 but only to cuddle. He only wants to play for about 15 min a day. He does bark if he can't be on me, so usually gets his way. I guess he has me pretty well trained the way he wants. I don't think having a pup in his crate sometimes is a bad thing though, it will keep him from being as spoiled as my boy

| No, puppies do not need constant playtime and its quite alright to put her in her crate for some time, that way she gets used to being alone some and doesn't freak out if you have to go somewhere.

| Crate Time So are there any tricks to re-introducing a Yorkie to a crate? I think the crate stop being used 2 weeks after getting her. Should it be in a small area, large area, dark, light...? |

I think if you can walk Daisy a couple of times in the evening even if it is just for 10 minutes it will help. Good luck | |

| Crates are a great idea and I do have one for Mika, though she rarely uses it. She tends to share with my other dogs who have their own space under the stairs. There's no door just a baby gate, the floor is linoleum and they have blankets and bowls in there. I only tend to lock the gate if they need to be out of the way while the back is open for instance! I have three dogs so they all entertain each other, Mika still plays with me but when I've had enough there are two other willing playmates!!! Is getting a playmate out of the question? What better excuse for another furbaby! If another dog is a no no how about a kitten? If your yorkie is still young or well socialized you shouldn't have a problem! They will still need to carefully introduced though!

| Crate time is fine! I look at it as just like putting my skin kids down for a nap in the afternoon. They need some down time as well as I need some me time, lol! With Koda and Kammie I just put them in their seperate crates and shut the door, but NOT latch/zip it. They know not to come out until I say. They will whine after they take a nap after about 45 minutes and I give them the go ahead that its all right to come out then |
