| Hair on Silk's legs (grooming) i asked this question somewhere yesterday on a thread about grooming but lost the thread. Sooooo, all you guys that groom your own yorkie here's the question: Silk has a very long flowing coat. I do not want to shorten it. I keep the pads trimmed but the hair on her legs has grown over the ends of her paws. Does this make sense? It's that beautiful long hair that makes them so pretty. Should I trim the hair back so it doesn't flow over her paws? It is really pretty as is. It probably is half an inch or more over her paws. it is like ladies dresses that the hem is over their feet. I will try to post pictures later. Thanks |

| Yorkie grooming Yes, you should trim the hair and the best way to do that is to stand Silk on all fours away from you, so her rear end is facing you. Second, lift her paw up and toward you so you have a clear view of her pad, toes, and the overhanging hair. I like to use thinning shears on Yorkie feet (NOT the paw pad) because it's more natural looking and less choppy. Third, you would comb all of the hair down over the foot. Fourth, you would trim the hair all the way around the foot in a circle shape and set her paw back down, the hair shouldn't touch the ground. One thing about the thinning shears, you can take a little off at a time to see how or if you like it! That's one of the great things about owning a Yorkie, your options are limitless, you can have her hair any way you like it! Good Luck, you'll do great! P.S. Always trim clean dry hair for best results. |
