| Obsessed with mirrors My little girl is obsessed with looking at herself in mirrors. I noticed it the other day when I couldn't find her. She was in my roommate's room bouncing around infront of her full legnth mirror. I moved the mirror out into the living room and now all she does is play infront of it. I think she is admiring herself or something. LOL! Do any of your furbabies do this? What's with it?

| Oh yeah, Tigger does this whenever I'm getting ready for work. He'll bark at himself, jump at his reflection and sometimes paw at it. He's gotten a few good jumps agianst the mirrors. It's hilarious. Our little dogs are so vain. lol so cute.

| They're not being vain or admiring themselves. They can't recongize the dog in the mirror as themself because they have no perception of their own appearance. They see the "other dog" and get very excited. It's actually a very intersting distinction. For instance, monkeys cannot recognize themselves in the mirror, but great apes (chimps, oraguntan, gorillas, etc) do. Monkies try to attack or play with their reflection where as great apes groom themselves while watching their reflection. I find the distinction in the way the brain works from different levels of evolutionary development faschinating.

| I miss that. The other dog in the mirror used to freak Gus out. He would bark and growl, slowly walk up and then back away really fast. lol Other than an occasional head tilt he's lost all interest now.

| My Andy wants to "tear up" the other "dog" in the mirror! He'll growl and bark and get upset no matter how many times I show him it's just him, LOL! It's funny because he's not like that with real dogs, maybe it's just that it's in his house?...
