| How do I get my AKC papers??? Thought someone might help me....I have had Izzy B. since November 28th and the breeder still has not given us her AKC paperwork. She was advertised in the newspaper as AKC - when we bought her the breeder told us he would send us the papers in a couple of weeks or we could pick them up. Two weeks after we got her she started getting sick and to make a long story short has seizures and enlarged heart. We have been in constant contact with him regarding her health problems and the expense we have endured in vet bills, even taking her to Oklahoma State University to have liver shunt ruled out. He has never offered any of our purchase price back and this I can accept - I am willing to accept what he says in that he did not know she was sick and had never had a sick puppy before. Since I have no proof that what she has is hereditary, I do not want to push this issue but........am I asking too much to at least have her papers so I can register her? I had never planned to breed her anyway but I already had her registered name picked out and feel like since I paid a large sum for her that I should at least get the papers on her. I have asked him at least 4 times by phone and in person for her papers and he always has an excuse. The last time was about 3 weeks ago and he said he had messed them up and had to send them back in and should be getting them back anytime. I go back to Amarillo tomorrow and plan to try to find him and see what excuse he has this time, but from reading some of the threads on here, I am wondering if AKC will even do anything if I call to complain that he is misrepresenting them by saying he is selling registered Yorkies??? I looked up the AKC web site and got a name and phone number for a person in Amarillo who you can call who will refer you to breeders for a particular AKC breed. I have called this woman at least 4 or 5 times and left messages on her answering machine, hoping she might tell me who I could contact directly at AKC, but she has never returned my calls. I realize now that I should never have purchased the puppy without getting the papers at the time I paid, but if I remember correctly, I did not get the papers on my first Yorkie until about 2 weeks after I purchased her (from another breeder). Thanks for any help you can give. Barbara - Emmie and Izzy B's mom.

| papers CAll AKC and tell them you can not get papers from this breeder...make a formal complaint in writing. You also have the right to sue in small claims for your vet expenses. Best wishes |

| Will AKC actually do anything if I do complain, like not let him register anymore puppies until he sends our papers, or will it fall on deaf ears??? I really wanted to avoid going to court but I don't know how to keep other people from ending up getting "taken" like I did. He does not have a web site as far as I know - guess he is what is considered a "backyard" breeder, though seemed like a very upstanding person - retired airline pilot, beautiful old home full of antiques and an antique business on old route 66 where we last visited in hopes of getting our papers. Just hard to believe he has done this to us.

| It is impossible to predict what issues AKC will help with but they do insist on correct paperwork. Do you have the name and numbers of the parents of the puppy? I have a friend who just went thru a mess trying to get paperwork for her dog. She was able to find out that the breeder/broker had NEVER litter registered any litters with the male who was supposed to be his sire..but, AKC said they could not do anything about it since technically, AKC was not involved. But, I agree with Pat. If you have a bill of sale, contract or anything that proves you bought the puppy from him and when, how much and the health as he represented it, I would head to court. Never hurts to rty to get some of your money back..I am sorry to hear that this is happening to you and your baby.. |

| All we have are our cancelled checks written out to him - no contract, no information on the parents. I know I was very irresponsible in buying the way I did - it was before Christmas and I really wanted a puppy - when we were talking about my other Yorkie he told me he had sold her breeder 2 of his Yorkies and so I really felt that if his puppies were good enough for her (the puppy we had gotten from her is beautiful and we have never had a problem one with her) that he must be okay. I don't know if just the canceled checks would be enough to go into court with or not. Also, if we went to court, could they make us give her back to him in return for the vet bills?? We could never, ever give her up, we have been through so much together and we love her more than ever - if he took her back he would just euthanize her - I can't see him giving her medicine twice a day for the rest of her life, doing blood work every month or 2 and all the other things that go along with maintaining her health. I had hoped the AKC Yorkie breeder referral lady in Amarillo would call me back so I could at least alert her to this person so she would not refer anyone to him, in case he was on her list. I will definitely sit down in the morning and write a letter to AKC - but all I can give them for now is his name and address. Oh, yes, when I first asked him if any of the other puppies in the litter had been sick he said no, but then when I last saw him to ask for the papers and asked again about the other puppies, he told me Izzy B. was the only puppy the mother had - that the mother was an older dog and he probably should not have bred her again. So that made me wonder why he could have messed the papers up so badly that he had to send them back in when there was only one puppy involved. I believe he is being less than truthful, for sure. Thanks for the help. Barbara

| i got akc papers the day i picked up my puppy, took them home filled them in and sent them out. you can take him to small claims for paying a price for an akc registered puppy under false advertising. maybe that will help cover some of the vet bills, you may not be able to get anything on that without proving that he knew the puppy was sick, or came from a sick parent. |

So good luck with AKC unless they have changed their policy in the last few years on complaints. | |

| Had anyone here ever gone to small claims court and been able to keep their puppy?? I could never, ever give her up. I don't really care about the money anymore though I believe it is wrong to sell a sick puppy, and I don't know for a fact that he knew she was sick when he sold her. But I do believe it is wrong to advertise AKC and then not provide the papers. Unfortunately, when I bought her I was not aware you were supposed to get the papers that day. But, if there is ever a next time I will be sure I have them before any money changes hands!!! Thanks ya'll for all your posts. I appreciate it. Barbara
