Do you keep a potty pad in the crate? If so, you may try taking a potty pad with you outside. Good luck.

| Reuger did that too when we bought him a new crate. Take the divider and make his area smaller. Just give him enough room to lay down, no more. We got Reuger's new crate at Christmas and I had to make it pretty small. I was so upset because I bought it to give him more room. I left him with it pretty small and gradually have been making it bigger. Just a couple of weeks ago I finally took out the divider and we've had no problems. Hope this helps.

A little off the subject - but I have a neighbor who was training his pup to use a puppy pad - and, of course, was discouraged if he went anyplace else in the house. Warmer weather arrived and he started taking his pup outside - and that little dog would never go to the bathroom when he was on a leash. We think he thought it was "bad not to use his puppy pad" - and there was no way he was going to go with his owner only a few feet away. It would just wait until they went back inside. He said though that if he let the pup loose, it would get away from him and then go to the bathroom --- but not with him nearby. Carol Jean

Crate space should be about 4 inches of height from head to top of crate and only enough room on the sides to allow for sleeping. Otherwise it will be the potty, as you know. If you have a tiny, you could try to position the crate to allow the door to be open and put a pad outside of it for potty. I did this with Lacey because she could not hold her bladder for long as a puppy. You will have to use something to keep your furbaby from running loose though. I used a small table, would turn it on its side at night and therefore used it to keep Lacey in. A puppy has to go very often, I'd keep an eye on mine all the time, plus took them out after eating, play or sleeping. It is tough to start with but they do get it, with lots of attention and treats for pottying outside. Good luck

I tried using puppy pads, but she would use it once out of 10 times. she would go around but not on it. we took her out on the leash and she would walk and sniff forever then go if we were lucky. once we got our fence fixed after all the hurricanes we started to let her go out and run for a bit, then she would go. she is doing wonderful now, it took a year. funny though when she went in heat she started having accidents all over the house for the first few days.

I personally do not like puppy pads, or pottying in the house at all newspaper etc.... I have a 4 almost 5 mths old yorkie named Hannah and I do belive I got the luck of the litter! We keep her in a playpen with a crib tent secrured to it so she can't escape, we have a covered the floor with a large garbabge bag and placed a towel over it I keep her bed and food and water in there with her all the time, she also has her toys. She has NEVER pottied in her playpen she whines and jumps when she has to go and occassionally she gets up at night to potty and goes right back to bed. She has also never pottied in the house. Most people have trouble training yorkies so I feel blessed to have such a good girl.. I started her from day 1 , outside training, we started by going outside every 1/2 hr to and hour and gradually made it longer in between she now goes out every two- three and sleeps almost evrynight through the night. Now that said if we will be gone more then 4 hrs (which is rare) because my husband works from home and I am a stay at home mom, we put her in the laundry room and we do put down plain newspaper but she has never used it while we were away. My point I just think puppy pads confuse the puppy, they are still in the house so they still think they are pottying in the house, then you want them to switch to outside and no longer potty in the house. I just think there little brains don't get it LOL/ Good luck I hope your babe gets the potty thing down!
