| sleeping in family bed I have a 9 month old yorkie, katie, that I have been home daily with since I got her at 10 weeks. She had some health problems when I got her and took alot of TLC. I am home all day and have potty trained and taught her to ring a bell, that I have hanging by the back door, when she wants to go out. I groom her, walk her, feed her, play with her, and love her beyond reason. Katie's bed is in the kitchen and she has always slept there, confined to this room by a child gate. Lately, we have let her into our bed for sleeping. PROBLEM: She INSISTS on cuddling up to my husband. When he got out of the car yesterday she got very aggitated and focused on watching for his return. He loves her and will walk her and take her out to potty when he's home.I'm so bummed! She's my dog, but I feel he's her favorite. Why?, and what can I do to change this. I know this sounds childish, but I'm heartbroken about this. Katie's Mom |

| i know what you mean!!! it seems like the main caregiver (ME) gets the shaft when daddy comes around... it is like they want to get the attention of whomever is not showering them with it... it is a leader issue, I think... try ignoring your baby, then maybe she'll want your attention...that is way too hard to do, right!? the bell ringing is impressive..how did you do that?? |

| This happens a lot I think. Ladies get a girl and she loves her "daddy". Maybe you need a boy too. The men usually don't do the feeding, training, bathing and such. I think they are veiwed as the fun guy, so they can get to be the favorite. |

| My boyfriend will be the first to tell you that Stewie likes me better. I "baby" him. BUT... when its bedtime, Stewie sleeps on my boyfriend like a scarf, wrapped around his neck. Maybe you move around too much or cough or make some kind of noise he doesn't like. I know I do and I attribute him sleeping on my boyfriend to my moving around. Don't feel badly. Katie still loves you more

| Gracie seems to be the same way. I am her right hand girl when I am there alone with her but as soon as my boyfriend comes home for lunch or comes home after getting off work she gives all her attention to him and I feel a little left out. I am the one who seems to do everything for her....which she is my dog so thats understandable but he does none of the punishing, brushing, bathing...he gets to do only the fun things like giving treats, taking her outside to play and then cuddle when its bedtime. I of course do all the fun things too but there is more associated with me.

| Sometimes I wish my dogs loved my husband a bit more. I love them so much, but I almost fell over them today - walking on crutches with two little ones at your heels can be challenging to say the least But, we have made progress with Tia accepting my husband. She starts off on my pillow at night, but sometimes ends up on Dave's chest! Pretty adorable when I wake up and see them cuddling each other without even knowing they are doing it!

| I actually have been for about six months now - I have Transient Osteoporosis of the Hip. Long story short, I can't bear weight on my hip because the bone has such a high likelyhood of fracturing. It's the most stupid and painful thing to EVER happen! But thanks for your concern !

| That's horrible! I had to quit my job as well as some other things I love (bike riding, regular exercise not involving a pool) -- it's not fun at all, I feel for you

| Sleeping With Dad Thanks to all that replied to my post. Katie is now in a large, soft crate beside the bed and being my sweet girl during the day. For now this is how I'm dealing with the "cuddling with Dad" in our bed issue. I'm sure I'll learn to deal with it,and get over it.To answer how I trained Katie to ring a bell to go outside, this is what I did: I tied 5-6 small bells on a long ribbon and attached it to the upper side of the exit door frame. Everytime I took her out I took her little paws, rang the bell, said potty, and opened the door. I did this EVERY time I took her out. With time and patience she got the message. My daughter has a Bichon and I did the same to her. She learned very quickly. These little loves are so smart. Now, when I can't see her sitting by the door to go out I can hear her ring the bell. RESULT: fewer accidents. |
