| For new parents Hello All, I just wanted to mention to all the new yorkie parents out there that when you are going over your expenses when looking into getting a new puppy, to please also add in $1000 for vet costs in the first year, just in case. I just see it so often posted that people can't take their furbabies to the vet because they don't have the funds. Another option is to get pet insurance right away. I know it can be as cheap as $9 a month. It's just so sad to reads posts from people who are desperate to medically treat their babies themselves because they cannot afford the vet bills.

I have to add that when searching for a pup, don't base your decision on price of pup. It's the breeder, the breeder, the breeder. Buying from a reputable breeder (who may charge more for pups) will save a LOT of money in the long run. | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I totally agree! I have already spent well over 2,000.00 on Cali who is only 8 months old andstill needs to be spayed, teeth pulled and a liver biopsy. I feel so bad for people who do not realize how expensive small dogs can be until they get sick.

| I agree with you totally. Obviously on this site, everybody loves their dogs to death. I get upset though when I look through Craigslist and see people saying that they are brooke and can "only" afford to pay $300, yet they want a purebred Yorkie puppy. I am always itching to write them back saying that if they can only afford $300, how will they afford vet bills, training classes, etc. It's almost like them thinking they will buy a sweater, pay for it once and it's done with. It's expensive to have a puppy! Quote:

| Great post! All prospective Yorkie purchasers should keep that $$ amount in mind. |
