| I think it just depends on the dog. Some of them never change color and will always have a cotton coat, black and tan. Some of them get a silky coat, steel blue and tan, which should change by the time they are 1 year old. I gave my Brownie a super short cut in the summer and now she has a full coat again. It's like our hair, some people's hair grows faster and some grow slower.

| My black and tan puppy totally changed colors by the time he was four months old - he changed to a sliver and very light blond/tan. He is awfully pretty right now. Of course - my pup has been trimmed several times - he is sporting a puppy cut - and the older black and tan hair has long been cut off. His new colors are all that we see now. Keep an eye your puppy's roots - and you'll see any new colors coming in. Carol Jean |

| What I have read is.. they should have their adult coat by 2 years old. Bailey will be 2 in June and is still very dark.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I agree that they change up until 2 years....my girls changed to a silver on the head and now that is turning gold/tan!!! I have heard that it can take up to a year for their full coat to grow up, but their coats all grow at different speeds so it may take longer than that!!!
