| Grooming question Hi, I am wondering how you fellow yorkie lovers groom the hair on the top of your baby's head. Zoey's is driving me crazy. It's either sticking striaight up and looks a sight or its oily looking and laying flat. I see these darling pictures of yorkies with fluffy looking foreheads, but Zoey's doesn't look like that. She is 3 1/2 months and maybe her hair just isn't long enough yet. (this is my first yorkie, obviously) She went to the groomer last week and they put a bow in it but what a pain to get out and comb out. It looks very thin on the top of her head and just kind of parts wherever. Any advice out there. I want to look at her and think she is just the cutest thing ever, and she is, but.....her hair is not! I thought maybe she just had a "bad hair day", but everyday seems like one for her. Poor baby! Thanks in advance for your help! Zoey's mom |

| Well youve got two ways you could go you could get a puppy cut and then the hair would be shorter or you can be patient and let it grow out. Its in the inbetween stage where its harder to manage. I have let my girls grow out and it is worth it. I like the long hair though.

| I think it is worth growing out too.........I love the long hair on Yorkies. I have had Mojo's hair cut in a puppy cut with a visor cut over his eyes....they can still wear a bow with that cut too. Bows look great in their hair....and I think it depends on how they are put in, if they get all knotted and such. Hope this helps.

| Pics of Jewel 3 Mo. Here are pictures of Jewel at 3 mo.; 4 mo.; 6 mo; and 1 yr. before her 1st hair cut. Hope it helps you get a bit of reference to what you can expect. It's definitely worth holding out!

| My pup is almost six weeks old and has a very short puppy cut right now. He had terrible puppy hair --- thin, oily, couldn't get a comb through it, etc. etc. So - he has been trimmed several times -- his terrible puppy hair is nearly all gone and his new coat is a beautful silver and light tan. It is soft, silky, and easy to comb - and it is thicker and not oily anymore. I couldn't comb him at all before and now he never has a tangle anywhere. It never matts at all. Now that he has better, thicker hair comin in - we are ready to let it start growing. The hair that grows out now will be much nicer - thicker and easier to manage. I personally think the answer for some pups is just keep them short for the first few months until you have better hair to work with it - and then let it start growing. This can make all the difference in the world. Carol Jean |

| I always comb mine's hair back when it is wet. It will sorta tuft over their eyes. Carol Jean is right, patience and it gets better. I clip the hair just below their eyes, the part that goes up in front of the eyes. Hope that helps!

| Maybe you can try baby barettes? I used them on my pups when their hair was thin and hard to tie up.

| Thank You Thanks so much for the info about hair. I am so glad to know that it will get better. I seen one of your pictures with a little tiny clip, comb thing and my daughter has a bunch of them - I think I'll try it. Hopefully it won't look so oily and thin on top in a few months. Have a great day! |
