| HELP!!! I can't stop my yorkie from BITING Need some help. My yorkie keeps biting anyone's hand whenever we try to pick him up. He starts barking at me and tries to lay a couple of bites into me. It's not just me who he tries to bite, he does it to everyone. Once I get a hold of him I tell him "no" and he stops biting only when I hold him, but when I let him down and try to pick him back up again the biting starts again until he calms back down. Any ideas on how to stop him from biting? One of my coworkers told me to pop him on the nose everyone time he bites, she stated make sure I pop him hard enough for him to remember not to bite.

| No dont hit him youll make him fearful. Just try to redirect him when he bites. Stick a chew toy or a toy in his mouth and telll him no bite. Another thing we would do is spray bitter apple on our hands and feet. They out grow that biting stage.

| There is a mouth/bite training worksheet on my website www.sylvanyorkies.com Please do not hit your dog...this will signal the end of your relationship and only make him hand-shy and fearful.

| biting... My puppy bites ALL THE TIME but we started a training class last week and the trainer suggested we hold a treat in our hand but covering most of it so she has to lick/bite to get to it - when she bites say loudly uh uh and when she licks praise and when she just lightly scrapes her teeth its ok too (since she is trying to get to the treat) then let her have a little when she does the right thing.... she still bites alot but she has been licking more since we started this exercise... but like i said its new so i dont know how well it will work just a suggestion |

| My yorkie used to bite when she was little, the trainer said to put your thumb in her mouth, push down on her tongue and say "no bite". I only had to do this a couple times and she stopped. Now if she gets a little rough I just say "no bite" and she stop.

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | We had the same problem with Marty, but luckily we've managed to keep it under control. We would tell him "no biting" in a pretty harsh voice, and when he would switch to licking we would praise him A LOT. So now he just licks all the time. |
