| Serious Question I thought I would try and get some feed back on this and see what everyone thinks. Please lets not have any argument or anything like that. Lets talk about this.... I have recently found out that a breeder is possibly going to sell one of her studs. Now he is 4 years old and has sired I think it was about 80 pups. He is a little over three pounds and very good temperment. The problem is that him and one of her other studs have recently got into a fight and she feels she needs to let one of these two go. Only for the safety of either studs. But she has three studs and keeps them seperated when a female is in heat. Usually they all get along but this time these two started fighting like they would fight to the death. She is all upset and worried as she loves them all but like I said she is more concerned about their health with the fighting. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should she sell one or just always keep them seperated which doesn't seem right but also it does seem right in a way. This is just heart breaking to her, but she knows this can happen and now she knows it does happen. She said she has been lucky that this has never happened before now. Any ways give me your ideas for her. Last edited by Princessyorkies; 02-13-2006 at 10:57 AM. |

| Is she the type of breeder where this stud is a loved pet or just a stud? If she really considers him a family member and would prefer to keep him, would neutering him help?

| I have 2 studs that will get into fights when one of my females is in heat. I just keep them seperated until she's finished. I have thought of selling one, but love them to much. Not ready to neuter yet. Good luck to your friend. |

| This stud is not only a stud but he is part of her and very much loved. They are all kept inside and get attention on more than a regular basis. I know she would not consider neutering him as he produces beautiful pups, and so does her other studs. She has said that they use to fight a little when a female came in and she seperated them but now they are fighting when no one is in. |

| I guess I'm the oddball here, my studs have never fought when a female is in heat. If it were me, I wouldn't sell him especially if i loved him and he was a great stud for my girls. i guess i'd just have to make improvisions for him if he were mine. i don't know what that would be now that i think about it. don't think i could sell him though because of that. only if he were just naturally agressive to all the yorkies and needed to be in a home where he was the only dog in house. so i guess my rambling hasn't helped much. good luck. |

| She says that it gets so bad that she worries about the two of them fighting to the death. If she can't secure them to where there is no chance that they will be together than I think she should find a new home for him. I think keeping them safe from eachother should be number one. She loves him so she will do what's best for the yorkie, even though it might be hard. Good luck to your friend |

That's why she is heart broken she says she knows it is best to sell him but yet she hates to because of her love for him. She said for years they didn't fight at all and now all of a sudden they are into it hot and heavy. | |

| Can she find a good friend or close relative who would like to give him a new forever home, and allow her to use him for stud? This way she would still be able to see him and keep up with him & his pups. |

| males I always had 4 to 5 studs and kept them apart from the females 75% of the time..they rarely had a cross word with each other..infact when I retired Shorty, I had to let his son, Whiz go also..they were attached at the hip. LOL When you have fighters...and I have had a few, I placed them if I could not get control..I do not like the responsiblity of keeping fighters..seen too many breeds have dogs seriously injured and a few killed. |

| My two girls are fighters. They ONLY fight each other. I love them both dearly -- Chattie is my heart and Chizzie is my laughter -- how could you choose? I keep them separated 100% of the time right now, but during the summer break from school I plan to do some serious work. I don't have an exact plan of action, but I am hoping to come up with something. Peppy gets along with both of the girls, so hopefully all is not lost. Sending Yorkie hugs and good luck wishes to your friend. |

| If they are going to have bad fights, I think she should find a new home for him. Maybe a family member, this way she can still see him when she wants to. It's really hard, but she really needs to do whats best for all her furbabies. Good luck to her.

| I wouldn't give up on him until she has exhausted all efforts.....has she tried any trainers or behaviorists who work with aggressive dogs? I would start there and find the best positive trainer she can find. Please wish her luck and keep us posted on her progress. |

| I have seen male dogs fight to the death . I can remember when I was very young My mom calling about the neighbors dogs fighting they had a male and a female in their back yard and all the neighbors male dogs would come around when this female came in heat and all you would see is fights one time it got so bad a large saint banard was almost killed and lay under their house dieing ........It had to of been under there like that a week or so. I'm the one who found it. I was sitting out side on our porch and watch the next door neighbors dogs when I saw the male like digging and barking under the porch , I went over there and I could here whining. I climbed under that porch on my tummy and saw this big dog it stunk so bad. I got back out and knocked on the door but noone answered...I went to tell my mom and she called the dog warden they went under there and pulled this poor dog out. its whole neck was raw and ripped open. I don't know how it lived. They took it to the vet and saved its life. and can you believe it they found the owners.they lived like 60 miles away from where the dog was found. anyway's we found out that the owners picked it up and took it home. sad ending two days later the dog was hit and killed by a car. Sorry so long but I have said it before and will say it again. Please keep these males apart when theres a female around in heat. |
