Pixie has a cold.

Pixie had to go to the vet.

Our vet was in sugery all day so he could not see us : (

But that I understood.

I asked for a referal... as it was friday and I did not want to wait untill monday.

The gal gave me two numbers. One she recommended and the other she made no remarks about.

The first was booked.

The second had an opening at 945. I took it.

The vet, a woman in her mid 40's seemed nice enough.... said hello to Pixie and then asked me to put her on the scale... 2lbs and 8 ounces. she has gained 2 ounces in the last month... I thought it would be more she eats like a pig.... I was a bit let down... She seemed confused by my reaction to the weight. Like I should have been thrilled to have such a small dog. I said that I was really hoping that she would make 5 lbs. But at this rate it doesent look like she'll make it to 4 and a half.

Then she blew it!

She said...........

"Looks like Pixie is going to be a TEACUP YORKIE." I almost hit the floor.

Do I even need to continue typing? I can't even find the words.....

Obviously not a vet that specializes in toy breeds. How old is Pixie now?

Funny, even a vet would get the TeaCup idea. Maybe she has heard it so much that she just refers to them as such. She HAS to know...don't you think?

That's funny!!! Well....in a way!

You ought to see the looks on peoples faces when I mention that there are really no "teacups". But I think it is said so many times and that is all the rage now, that people just have it stuck in their heads.

oh but they DO exist! just usually accompanied by a teapot, tea leaves, and hot water.

i suppose it's easier for people to say "oh you have a teacup yorkie" as opposed "oh you have a yorkie that is diminutive in size". it exhibits either verbal laziness and/or ignorance. for the average folk, i'd be annoyed but not shocked. but from an animal care expert like a vet??? i would have expected more.

The word teacup really doesnt bother me. It is just a description of size..

I'm not bothered by it either. It's just like when people say "oh you have a tiny." Same meaning, different word.

oh i forgot to mention. at the rate bunjee is eating and growing, i'm gonna have a "teapot" yorkie on my hands.

Okay, I must admit.....I have never been UNcomfortable with the word teacup when describing a dog of any breed....AND I am sure that I have used this word in the past (before I found YorkieTalk) to describe a dog.

I just think that in todays society....we have become accustomed to the word teacup even though there are several "politically correct" words, such as "tiny" "small" or the phrase "under 4 pounds" etc.

Yes, I have said it in the past and I have also tried to correct people on the term (and then it becomes a long drawn out talk or those looks of what the hell), but in all honesty....it is just easier for me (because I hate to get into a heated debate over something like this) ignore it and move on or just say that "so and so's dog is indeed a tiny Yorkie or a small yorkie".

For the most part, it is just easier for people, in general, to say teacup....and they probably do not know any difference because no one has told them or they do not have small breed dogs or they have never read into the topic of that word in association with animal or they have never reserached purchasing a small breed dog, etc.

All we (most people) know is what we see and hear...we see stars with their "teacup" babies and we see how much of a demand there is for a "teacup" puppy....that is the fashion and rage now (I'm not saying it is right, but it is the truth in todays age), so that is what most want.......and hopefully they would do research on having such a small pet before making a big commitment, which, yes, I know, most do not!

I would only hope that anyone doing research on Yorkies will find YorkieTalk and have all of their questions answered!!! (regarding size or whatever else) ---much like I did!

i don't mind it either. i only mind it when breeders put their teacups for A LOT more. i think vets understand that too, but just use teacup as an adjective.

The Vet could call my dog a cat for all I care...as long as the the medical treatment he received for his ailment was what was needed to help my baby feel better!!

That's what the vet's assistant said to me when I brought the maltese I had in...oh, is she a teacup? Next time someone asks I REALLY wanna say, "What, you can't tell? Ohh, that's because the remaining set is at home!"
