| I need some silky coat grooming help please. What products are best to use on a silky coat? I can brush the boys and not even a minute later they look like they haven't been touched for a week. I think they prefer that look but sometimes I'd like them to at least look presentable. Neither of them have ever had their hair length trimmed. Is that recommended to help it grow better or is a trim just for appearance? I have a pin brush but that's all I've used so far. What shampoo and/or conditioner is recommended for the silk coat? Also, what brush is better to use on the silk coat? |

| I'm no expert - I just have a "shaggy" little pup. But - I would suspect that a trim would help shape your dog's hair and make it look better ---and stay looking better for a longer period of time. I have seen a couple of "before and after grooming" pictures on this site that really showed how much better a little grooming can make a dog look. It surprised me because I thought they looked great to start - but WOW after the grooming, they looked even better. Good luck! carol Jean |

| We use the CC products and it has made a wonderful difference in our girls coats!! (You can get them online from the company or a YT member sells them on her website...Imapreciouspup.com - and she gives YT members a discount.)

| just an idea Gizmo also has that silky coat, and he always looked like a mess, even right after being groomed. I met a lady that ran a local tanning salon here, who also has a little boy yorkie. She said that her yorkie had the same hair trouble, and that she took him to a groomer and had them give him like a teddy bear cut. It's not real short, still about two inches all over, and trimmed around the eye's to open the face and the ears trimmed. It has worked miracles for gizmo's hair. I will post a few pics of it on here, maybe they can explain it better. Hope that helps a little! if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

| Thank you for the replies. I'd like to let their coats grow long but what's the best way to go about it? Do I need to trim the length on a regular basis or just let it go and trim the ears, feet and tush? Also, for those who use the CC products, which are the best suited ones for a silky coat? Are they available in stores/pet salons or just online? One last question...is the boar bristle brush the best one for a silk coat? |
