| Puppy food and going into Heat.. How long do I keep my little girl on her puppy food? Is it bad that my dog's when they are eating they switch bowl's and eat each other food? Around what age do little girl's start going into heat? Is there some way that I can keep him away from her when this happen's? Thanks Stephanie |

| Ginger just went into heat last week for the 1st time( & I'm ready for it to be over!) & she turned a yr. old on Nov. 2oth. She is just finishing up a bag up puppy food. The next bag I buy will be adult food.

| You can probably stop feeding puppy food around 6 mo. they aren't growing as fast and don't need to have all of the extra calories. If she is already eating out of the other dogs bowl just slowly start decreasing the amount of puppy food you give her and increasing the amount of adult dog food fed in the other bowl. Most small dogs go into heat between 4-10 mo. with the average probably being around 6 mo. Good luck on keeping your boy away. If you read the breeders section you will see that dogs can be pretty sneaky. And even the most unexpernienced of doggy men can get the panties off your little girl. Maybe we should devise a puppy chasity belt.

| Some foods have a recommendation to feed puppy food til 1 year. The easiest and wisest way to keep the boy away from her is to have her spayed as early as the vet will do it...or have him neutered |
