| first grooming....oh No I took Ella (15 wks) to get her first grooming. I am really worried because she made noises I have never heard from her before. The day before she went to the vet and got 2 shots and didnt even have this same reaction to that. The lady that groomed her was actually the lady that sold her to me (shes a groomer) so I was lucky enough to be there, but she went crazy. At first she sounded like a cat that was dying and then she sounded like a real baby that someone was murdering. I am not being dramtic. The lady that did her has 3 yorkies herself and knows that she was really bad. At first she took the brush on the opposite site of the comb and put it on her (even w/that she went crazy). Is there any one out there that can help with this. I want to keep my pup looking beautiful. Thanks for any advice... |

| I know that some breeders start to get pups used to regular grooming very very early, by handling them often , looking in their ears, playing with their feet, brushing them daily, looking in their mouths and brushng their teeth. It is important for you to groom her daily and try to get her used to being handled as she is when being groomed. It will make her life so much easier and yours as well. Get her used to baths and the blow drier. Good luck and let us know if she improves. |

| My yorkie, Mr. Hobbs, had this same problem. He got a hair-line crack in his leg when he was real little from jumping off the couch. We took him to the vet, and they tried to put a splint on him. He hollered like someone was murdering him. I started balling crying when I heard him because I thought they they were hurting him. But the vet said that he was not being hurt AT ALL. They ended up having to give him a little gas just to get the splint on. He also would never let me get near him with a brush. Whenever I tried to brush him he would go absolutely crazy, crying and hollering like I was hurting him, but I knew I wasn't! I took him to get his first grooming and the groomer had to call me at work to tell me that it would take longer than usual to groom him because he was being so bad!! When I picked him up from the groomer, she told me that I just had to keep brushing him and whenever he would act up while being brushed, hold him up firmly so he is looking you in the eyes, and sternly say "NO, THAT IS ENOUGH!" This was about a month ago that he got groomed, and since then I have been brushing him almost everyday. At first, he still hated it, but after a few "NOs! That is Enough!!" he started cooperating. Hang in there!! Don't let her control you. Keep trying to brush her yourself. She will get the idea that you are the boss and that she has to mind you. I tell Mr. Hobbs, "You are a yorkie, and yorkies have to get brushed, so yuo better get used to it!!!!!" |

| I know with time they get better, however, Mac absolutely "Hates" the groomer. Just seeing the comb gets him in a tizzy. My groomer is very patient with Mac but I can not stay this only makes it worse. I always ask how he did and get the same response (now with a chuckle) oh we did good, Mac just likes to be difficult. If Mac sees a comb he attacks it. Mellie on the other hand loves to be groomed. Mac does love the bath and dryer, Mellie hates the dryer. When you comb/brush at home do so for just a short while bofore they start getting anxious and stop. Reward for the good behavior. Slowly increase the amount of time you groom. 15 weeks is still young. As time progresses things should get better. Unless of course you have a MAC. Good Luck I hope this helps, I am sure others here will have some better advice.

| This is exactly what i have been told by another yorkie owner he said start early so they are ready for it plus brushing their teeth would come in handy if something was ever in their mouth and u need to get it out cuz they would already be used to your hands in there

| By the way, my pup Ella barks and attacks the blow dryer no matter how many times I do it. I have done everything from playing with her paws to playing w/her eyes, she is just a little B****!! Sorry to put it like that, but she hates to be touched. I will just have to keep working on her.. Thanks for the feedback it helps knowing I am not the only one... |

Have you tried a quiet dryer on low. The younger they are to learn about grooming, the better it is when they are older. It takes time, but they do learn, how to stay still. Good luck to you
