| Help with relapse Hi all - I need your suggestions. Gracie is 18 months old and has taken to peeing on the floor where ever she pleases. She has a pee pad and uses it as well. I keep finding puddles or dried puddles in the house. I cannot catch her in the act - she is sneaky. I don't feel like I can start crate training again - she would go nuts. We have a maltese who just turned one yesterday and he never has problems - in fact, we never really trained him - he just watched Gracie and did what she did. He never has accidents. My other problem is that since they were both trained to pee pads, they cannot distinguish between pee pads and rugs or towels or anything material on the floor...so I cannot take them to visit anyone because they will pee on the carpet. Any suggestions?

OMG.. this could be my post..exactly... Desi is one year old and I don't know what happened but its like she never used a pee pad in her life. After being totally trained, she now won't go on the pad if she tripped on it !! The problem is that she won't let me catch her. I called a behaviorist but she wants $600 to come to my house to teach me how to retrain her. I've tried starting from the beginning but when I put her in the x-pen she screams like I'm killing her. I'm really at a loss here.. I don't know what to do anymore. I will be interested to see what suggestions you get.

| I can relate w/the rugs, mats etc. My kids think if its not a hard floor, pee on it. Sometimes if a housebroken dog starts peeing where they aren't suppose to, it can be a sign of a bladder infection. I'd keep an eye on her just to make sure no UTI is going on. |

| Maybe you can try and clean it up with Nature's Miracle because that way, they can't keep going in the same place because it erases the smell. even if you clean with a regular cleaner, dogs can smell pee and tend to keep going in the same place. Also, if you're cleaning with something that has ammonia, then they'll really keep going all over the place. The ammonia smell is the same as dog's pee. Try the Nature's Miracle to clean it up and I promise, they won't keep going where they're not supposed to. |
