Is my yorkie from bad breeding We are new yorkie owners. She is 4 months old now and the most adorable. My girlfriend has had several litters and at the time we got bought our puppy she had a litter. We didn't want to pay $1200.00 for one of her puppies and didn't want her to lower her price just for us so we found a puppy for much less. When I called and told her what we paid she started asking me all kinds of questions. She wanted to know if the mothers ears were standing and how much she weighed. I told her no the ears were not standing and she weighed 9 pounds, but her father weighed 6 pounds. She told me that because my puppies ears were not erect and her mothers ears were not erect that this was because of bad breeding. Can someone give me some advise on what to tell her because I really don't know.

I am no expert but My Zoes ears are not standing but her puppies (she had three ) who are 4 months are standing so I really don't think it has to do with bad breeding but hopefully some breeders will have more to say about this. congrats you your new fur baby...

Floppy ears are not a sign of bad breeding...they flop for several reasons. Was the hair trimmed on the mother's ears or was it long and heavy? How about your puppy's ears, are they trimmed? That's where I would start...take off some of the weight and see if that helps. If you want them to stand you can massage them a few times a day while she's on your lap...that increases the circulation in that area and will help them stand.

puppy You went in with your eyes open. You saw the mother with down ears, it will be no surprise if your pups ears remain down..or if she is larger. I would tell your friend you would have loved to have had one of her pups, but the cost was out of your price range at that time. A real friend will not critize your new companion, a real friend will make over her and tell you what a wonderful pet she is going to make. If my friend asked my opinion before buying a puppy, I will be honest and tell them want I think..BUT after the pup is purchased, why would I hurt her feelings. Some people have a need to feel important at others people expense.

I wouldn't say your pup is from "bad breeding".... She just isn't within the "standard". Yorkies come in a lot of different shapes & sizes. Many of us have dogs that don't fall within the standard.... Even though they're too big, too little, have the wrong coat, ears don't stand, have an underbite, legs are too short or too long... Whatever! They're still Yorkies and we still love them all the same. There's a lot of explanations to why your pups ears aren't standing yet, but that doesn't mean they won't in the future. There's a lot of threads on here about getting a pup's ears to stand. Do a search and find out what others have done to help the process out a little. Just because someone doesn't like the look of the dog or thinks it's a result of "bad breeding" doesn't make the pup any less valuable... She'll still be a wonderful pet and faithful companion. Welcome to the wonderful world of the Yorkie!! | |

First of all welcome and congrats on your new baby Yorkie. Try and keep the hair trimmed off the ears and this should help. My Daisy had always had floppy ears and I was OK with it. Couple weeks ago I came across a website that showed a very easy way to tape ears. Your welcome to read the thread below: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sh...light=soft+taco I was OK with her having floppy ears but I at least wanted to try it once. Try not to focus on the negative things your girlfriend mentioned. Both of mine came from very good stock but ears sometimes have a mind of there own.

As always, words of wisdom from Pat (yorkierose). You have your pup now, and you say she is the most adorable. I guarantee you that nothing will deter you from falling further in love with your little puppy. Many people here on YT have larger yorkies and they are a source of amusement and fun with all their cute pics and stories. Don't let your friend rain on your parade!
