Confused Is she sick already

OMG...I just got roxi home last night and she is acting funny. She is sleeping quite a bit and when she does walk around she isn't very active. We did go for a walk outside for about 15 minutes and she woke up a little, but still not too much. She has totally refused to eat the food her breeder sent her home on (eukaneuba) SP? So i switched to ceasars sof food and she ate about half of it. She keeps going over to her xpen and lying beside her food/water dish. I went in there to check on her and she was lying there with her chin in the water. She woke up this morning at about 5AM ready to play and only played for about 45 mins.
She is peeing really well and had 2 BM's since last night. No blood or diarrhea noticed. She has times when she is lying on me that I notice her breathing spped up quite a bit, which is odd while she is resting. I really dont know what is going on, could it be that she just needs to adjust to being here. Please help me!!!! oh, and another thing ... how long should I wait until i bathe her? She REALLY stinks(breeder didn't bathe her) and has flaky skin. She needs a bath but I didn't want to over stress her. Thanks-Tara

I don't have much advice, I'm sorry, but could it be that she's just adjusting to being home? I would really start to worry if she's not eating at all or you notice a change in her BM's. It sounds like she's pottying pretty well. I know when we first got Bella home for the first couple of days she'd play for about 20 minutes or so and then be OUT like a light. She'd sleep hours and hours...we should be so lucky now, lol. She's not even 3 months yet and has more energy than I could ever shake a stick at.

I know that Bella will speed up her breathing when she's sleeping sometimes, too. She does it quite often. I always thought it was them dreaming? Kelli would do it too and she was much older. I hope things get better soon.

It could be she's just adjusting to her new home. Puppies do sleep a lot, wait till she's older, then it's nothing but play. Where are you walking her? She really should not be on ANY outside ground until she has had all her shots. You might want to get potty pads, because without her shots you are risking Parvo.
Please keep us posted.

hmmmm, how old is she? it really does sound like she is just not fully adjusted yet...everything is just so new and a little scary at first(for you and her)lol.
just give her a little time and if you think she is not eating enough or if she starts shaking , give her a little nutrical. u should not bathe her yet, if she stinks get some of those puppy baby wipes....powder fresh sent, that will probobly do the trick. good luck and keep us posted!

I would need to know how old she is too. How are her poops? Did the breeder send home a syringe of albon as a preventative for coccidia? The transition from her birth home to her forever homeis very stressful no matter how you try to make it easy on her.

If she is young and small she cannot miss meals or you risk a low blood sugar episode. Are you giving her honey or nutrical every couple of hours?

If she has diarhea or continues to not eat or drink I would start feeding her with a syringe and take her to the vet.

I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks guys. She is almost 4 months old, weighs 3 lbs, 3 oz. I have been giving her nutrical every couple of hrs, but only about 2 dots cause of her weight. Is that enough? Her breeder didnt send me home with anything but her papers, food, treats, blankets, and toys.I am gonna take her to the vet tomorrow for her 2nd set of shots, breeder had her first ones done. So should I still keep her in, even though she had her first shots? Thanks alot for the advice, I really wouldn't know what to do without you guys. She just had a little energy spurt for about 5 minutes, but now she is resting again. I think she is just worn out.-Tara

I woul;d just make sure she is eating and give her the nutrical as a preventative. Good luck. I know when I got Cali she got sick 2 in the first week and it's so nerve wracking. I always err on the side of caution and take here in to the vet for any problem.

With her weight you can give her about an inch of nutircal each time and I wouldn't give shots if she is "off". I would take a fecal sample to the vet. Get a fresh one and put it in the frig in a baggy until time for the appointment to avoid them having to retrieveit which is uncomfortable.

If you do decide to do shots, make sure you only give one at a time, no combos....no lepto.....I do not believe in shielding a puppy from the world because they are not fully innoculated. They develop a stronger immune system if they are exposed to more and since she has had one set of shots she is probably already protected for life.

Just my thoughts, hope she is better.

I agree she is adusting but I do not agree to not taking her outside to potty I have had a few yorkies in the past and have learned that if you start indoor potty habits it will be 100 times harder to outdoor train. And I NEVER use puppy pads I don't want my babes to think it is ever okay to potty in the house I use plain newspaper, without any writting on it, puppy pads have a scent to attract the pups to pee, and I just think its hard to retrain them. I have a 11 week old pup named hannah and since day on she has potteyed outside and has yet to potty in the house or use her newspaper. I just would'nt allow her around other dogs till she has all her shots. my girl was very sleepy and not to willing to play the first two days till she got use to us! Good Luck!

I think it's important not to have a puppy outside on ground that other pups have been. They are not protected from Parvo without all the Parvo shots. If you take them in your own backyard, that would be OK, but to go for walk's or to a park, you can be at risk. Parvo is very easy to catch, and hrad on the pups, in most cases they don't make it. The last time we were at the Vets, a girl had her young pup on the ground, right next to a pup who was there because he had Parvo. The Vet told her Mom to not have her pup on the ground before she had all her shots.

VERY GOOD post - there recently was a post about PARVO that stated it can live on the ground and still infect other dogs - SCARY STUFF -

and porkieyorkie...She may be adjusting to your new home but I would talk to your vet and get her a complete checkup and also space those shots out if you can. and if you can - hold off on the bath till the vet sees her
