Would like to know about the ears and not standing up I have two yorkie puppies that are just six months old. However, I just realized that their aren't standing up and should have been. My groomer and I shaved the ears from not being weighed down and I just did that this morning. Should I bring them to the vet and have them taped or just wait a few days and see what can happen. The groomer seems to think the the one puppy has larger ears and may not stand up ever. What can I do? I called the breeder and she apologized for not telling me to keep them shaved but I don't think that is all that it can be. Help?

I, too am waiting for my little guys ears to stand. He's a bit younger than yours though. The thickness of the ears are what allows them to stand or not and thicker ears just don't stand usually. I've heard that after 4-5 months if they aren't standing, they never will. Ask your vet if in doubt. I would try taping a few times and see if it works. I'm giving Bailey another week and if they don't start standing, I'm taping

Ears not standing A little secret passed on to us. Along with keeping the weight of excess hair cut off ears........We were told from what we think a good source " Lightly rub and massage the ears to help the blood circulation in the ears. We have seen this work, or the ears just finally got to the point to where they were ready to stand up. and If nothing else, the puppy will LOVE IT Not kidding, we have seen this work, and it makes sense to us. As far as them being 6 months old, it makes sense that they just may not stand on their own. Try the ears light massage and rub. It cost nothing, and it just may work for you. We are Sooo happy to be able to pass on anything we have learned, and appreciate all the tips we read here. Thanks: Kirk and Mary

Vets are rarely the best source for info about such matters. Ears up or down are not ailments which vets are accustomed to caring for. Ask a breeder of Yorkies in your area. Go on line and there are many articles...the ears may not stand up ever, but don't give up hope. Massage works very well and they do love it. Massage from the head to the tip with your thumb inside of the ear. Taping can and does work-but not always. Keep them shaved, learn to tape, massage..Remember, when they are stressed the ears will come down and they are about the age to be teething. Ears will come down when that happens some times..These babies are cute either way, but the breed standard is prick ears. Good Luck..
