Different colours of a Yorkie. Hello, I was just wondering what the different colours were as I am getting a puppy soon and would like to choose my favourite. Hopefully, you could post your pictures and underneath say what colour they are.. Thanks to people who take the time to do this.

| Standard colors of yorkies are black with tan or gold and blue with tan or gold. AKC does not acknowledge any other coloring. All puppies are born black and tan, they change as they get older, so the best way to detrimine the color of your future dog is to look at his/her parents. Bell is blue (bigger one) Petey is blk (tiny one)

There are also parti-colored yorkies and chocolates that are rare but do occur occasionally. There are tri-colored yorkies as well. They are usually black, white and tan and if they are from the Biewer line in Germany they are known as Biewer yorkies. If they are not from the Biewer line then they are just called parti-colored. I own a gold and white yorkie ...she has 4 white paws and white on her chest. Her parents were both traditionally colored black and tan. Here is a link to a thread about my yorkie Princess Chai and Mercedes, another gold puppy owned by another YT member, Julz http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29342

Standard colored Yorkie pups are born looking like a Rottie or a Doberman. You can't tell for sure what you will have as an adult as far as coloring goes. Its like a surprise! Good luck finding the one that is perfect for you!

Thanks for all the help! I'm not fussed about what colour my Yorkie will be, I think every colour is adorable. It's just my mum (or mom as you American's say ) wants a black and tan.. we'll just have to wait and see! Thank you guys for all your help.

Actually, AKC DOES indeed recognize and register other colors of Yorkies. Yorkie puppies that are standard in coloring are born black and tan/brown with occasional patches of white. But, a parti marked or tri-color is born with those colors that they show as adults. The parti-marked and tris are harder to find and are more expensive but if the parents are registered with AKC you can register the puppy by sending pics and application. The application goes to a committee for consideration and they take it from there...

Yes, my Red/Gold ones were accepted by AKC. Mercedes color is marked "tan" (only).
