| Put Vicks vapor rub on your hand. They do not like taste and it lingers a bit but won't hurt them. Don't let anyone touch near her face or at all until she stops. Try also an empty soda can with a few pennies inside the scary noise will distract her then give her something she can chew on like a toy. Praise and give treats when she chews on the toys |

| I know a lot of you disagree with time outs but that was the only way we could get Kyra to stop the biting behavior. We tried a lot of things but when grooming she would bite so I would say a loud no bite look her in the eyes and say, "I am boss" and promptly put her in her crate. After 5 minutes we would try it again. This went on for the entire grooming but after only 3 days of it she stopped her biting with just a sharp no bite command.

| Terriers were bred to kill rodents. If you let them chew on your hand they think of it as something to attack just as though you had a toy in your hand and were shaking it. When a terrier kills or is play killing they shake the daylights out of the object so stay still when he puts his mouth on you or you will just incite more chomping. When your puppy/dog has it's teeth in your hand don't move the hand that his mouth is on. Let that hand go limp. Take your other hand and gently remove his mouth from you hand. Give him a sharp "no" as you are doing that and promptly give him something like a bully stick to chew on. Make sure you keep the hand that his mouth is on limp the whole time. Any movement just incites more biting. Do not play tug or any other activities that incite the aggressive nature of your pet. Once they get in that mode it is a hard thing to get them out of. It is just nature to them to use their mouths when they are excited. Everyone likes to play tug or other games that get the puppy or dog excited but it is the worst thing you can do with a biter. Keep the puppy/dog calm and stop aggressive behavior before it gets started. |

The key is to not give up and do the correction every time. She'll get it. Just make sure she has something that she CAN chew..she needs that right now. ETA: Also, just thought that you might want to try a squirt bottle (some use that to stop barking)..it could work but you'd have to have that bottle "on" you at all times I guess lol

| i will tell you something simple that worked for me with Jem. and he bit hard. when he bit ,I would take my hand and push a large part of it, stiffened, in his mouth. so his mouth could not close.. he would look at me like. wtf? and he could not bite with his mouth opened so wide. you do not ram your hand in and you do not make him whine, you just make it impossible for him to close his mouth around the outside part of your hand, while you form a semi fist.it only took a couple of times and he found something else to do....bite my sister lmao Last edited by cherryblossom; 03-03-2013 at 09:04 AM. |

| Nip the Nip Question: Why does my puppy, bite and growl when we play ? Sounds like your puppy just gets over excited. Puppies nip each other and play rough. Depending on his age and stage of development here are a few things that may help. Really young puppies respond well to this 1. After You say a dramatic high pitched Oucheeeeeeeeeeeeeee ! Immediately put him on the floor or turn your back or walk away and ignore for about 5 seconds. He needs to learn 'Never put teeth on people, because they will stop playing. If love bites are not corrected it can lead to real bites that break skin. Older pups 2. If he nips while playing say 'Enough" and give him a toy instead of your hand and say 'Good TOY' when he bites the toy. Your cue word does not have to be Enough, You can use what ever feels right for you, like NO, or STOP IT. What ever cue word you use, say the same cue every time. Everyone in your family should use the same Cue words. (I do not like to say No Bite because, then you have to teach a new cue word for barking, rough play, fighting with other pets etc..) Enough is easy to use , and it always means Stop what you are doing right now ! Please do not play tug of war type of games with your puppy. This is too exciting for them, they get in that rip up the prey trance and you may get nipped.

BANNED! | I've tried the spray.. I've tried everything.. The biter apple spray, the new yuck spray..& they don't work for me at all. Bella will keep on biting me, the taste just doesn't phase her. Idk what to do & I'm going nuts. My boyfriend and I knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into when deciding to get a pup. But this is not what we ever could of imagined. She bites constantly. The bites hurt. There honestly is not a second in the day, when around people, that she's not biting. I know she's going threw a phase cause her baby teeth are coming in but some times I just think there's something majorly wrong w/her.. I've raised two other puppies before and my boyfriend several as well, and we both haven't experienced anything like this. I've said No a hundred times, I've held her muzzle shut for a couple seconds, I've put her on her side & tried relaxing her, & now I've been putting her in time out. I say no bite loud and if she does it again, I put her in her crate. Still, no effect yet... I'm waiting & praying.. But man this is wearing me thin.. Can u imagine, I've never been able to pet my puppy without her biting me & fighting my hands. It's crazy. . Also, when she's on the floor she's attacking my feet an ankles... Why |

| Jess play bites still at 14 months. she never hurts but she keeps doing it. I have tried holding her mouth and saying "no bite" clapping everything. She is in such a worked up playful state she just cant get out of it. I have to remove her to her crate where she jumps around like a crazy person.. |

| Our Bella is 7 and she bites me anytime I pick her up, I try to distract her by talking to her, 9 out of 10 times she will bite my hand, I have had some pretty deep bites that require antibiotics, my Dr tells me to get rid of her, but I would never do that. She sleeps right next to me when I am watching TV or reading and any movement causes her to turn and attack, she is so small I don't want to hurt her so I try Ceasars trick to hold her down but she growls the entire time showing her teeth. My friends Yorkie is almost as bad. These precious little ones have a real attitude issue, my husband calls it Torkietude... |
