| Grooming Can someone tell me what is a good age to give your Yorkie their first shave? Milo is a 16.5 lb who will be 8 months old on 4/1. He has had 3 "puppy trims" but I have not shaved him. However, I live in the GREAT state of Texas and as the weather warms up, he spends more and more time laying on the ac vents & in front of fans. He also doesn't like to run outside for more than 15 mins and I thought shaving him for the summer would help him. |

| I wouldn't necessarily shave him but get the cut one step above shaving. I would be concerned about getting sun burned if he was actually shaved. |

| I'm sure you meant clippers when you said shave and not literally shaving your dog's body. We groom our own boys. We have used a 10 blade on their bodies before, but we prefer the 7 blade for the bodies. We finger cut the legs and face. I understand your and your baby's situation completely. I live in Mississippi, and my boys simple can't have lots of hair in the summer. It's miserably hot/humid. I am attaching pictures that are hopefully helpful. The first are my boys in their winter cuts. The second is my Zeus in his summer cut. Perseus wasn't being cooperative that day, and I couldn't get a decent picture of his haircut. |

| My kido sports a puppy cut 365, the groomer uses a #7 blade for winter and a #5 for summer, 5 is a bit shorter then a 7 blade so you may want to start off asking the groomer to use the # 7. Either a 7 or a 5 blade will not cause your baby to get sunburned and he'll be very comfortable with less hair. Milo is old enough for a puppy cut, he's a big boy lol. My now passed girl as an adult weighed in at 17 pounds, no fat, beautiful sleek body.

| He can go to the groomer after all his shots are done. So anytime after he has his first shots. As soon as Joey had his I had to have the mobile groomer shave him down because the old owners didn't do anything to his hair so he was a matted mess and we had tried everything.

| Thank you so much! They really are my life. Everything I do, I do with them in mind. Husband is the same. Our 17 year old son went to prom Saturday night. My husband said we can go eat at our favorite place (which our son hates). I was silent. He asked what was wrong. I told him I didn't want to leave the babies. He was so thankful, because he didn't want to either. We ended up taking the babies for a drive with the windows down since the weather was so nice and getting take out. Don't know what we did before these precious angels came into our lives. |

| Ohmygosh, I am exactly the same with Piper. My family thinks I'm a little off-center (moved back to my hometown after 20 plus years) because I don't enjoy going out to lunch and dinner. First off, I hatehatehate leaving Pipe and simply don't see the point in going out to eat--just me. Now, having said that...my older brother installed an expensive fence just for me, for Piper to keep her safe and no one has ever done anything that nice. And they do understand that Piper is everything to me. We just part ways on the "going out" stuff. I've always been a homebody, but now I'm an intensely PiperHomebody---and quite happy to be that way!!! Give those too, too adorable little dudes smooches from us--so danged cute, they are...!!! |

I give Oscar a "Puppy cut" . I use the #10 blade with a 3mms guide comb. It leaves about a 1/4 inch length . I've read that shaving to the skin should be avoided to prevent sunburn. | |

| I've gone with the "shaved down" look for my girl in warmer seasons because her hair grows like a weed and is thick. So I try to keep it between 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and I keep her facial hair on the short side as well. She actually looks more adorable to me cause her nose bridge hair is short so i can see her eyes more and she stays much cooler. It's not considered a popular cut for yorkies, but I've had tons of people stop me and complement her cut.

| I apologize for the late replies. For some reason, I received NO email letting me know that any response were received. Yes, I meant with the clippers. I tried attaching a picture I took of Milo after his most recent "puppy trim" at Petsmart but had no luck Not only is he a mess in no time but he is always hot and it's too expensive. [$65 a trip] I would like to start grooming him myself but I don't have a clue what I am doing. Is 8 months old enough to use clippers? I was told that it would be bad for his hair. |
